Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

2 weeks ago my heater stoped working - tech that came out said it was a fuse $ igniter problem, there was a single stage fuse that was incorrect, he replaced the fuse with a 2 stage fuse, and also replaced the igniter, then he proceeded to program the system to shut off all heat between the hours of 10pm-5am, telling me this as he finished. I wasn't bothered too much considering the thermostat has a manual setting & hold temp setting. Although now 2 weeks later I can't get the temp I manualy set it for, the fan kicks on, heat blos but befor it reaches the set temp the system shuts off. % don't have a user manual, % don't know if I need a whole new thermostat again or a better tech or if there is some way to over ride / reset the system. I really prefer to manualy set my thermostat & have nothing automatically set to run & shut off. Please help....

I would try replacing the t-stat with a good quality non-programmable t-stat and start there

Why doesn't the second stage cooling work

If you have a two stage cooling system, you are probably unaware of its turning the second stage on and off unless you are right there listening to it or have the proper tools with which to tell. Most of the times, it is just a higher speed that the compressor runs on with a change to stage two.

Many times, a two stage cooling stat is installed in a single stage system because that is what was on the service truck. If so, it will operate the same on first stage as a single stage will. Usually the tech gets into the setup and changes the configuration to make the stat believe it is only has one stage. Many people may think they have an option that's not there.

Just a possibility.

My GE oven takes a long time to lite. When it finally does there is a small explosion sound. I already replaced the ignitor 2 weeks ago. It worked fine for about 1 week and now I have the same problem...

If the gas valve is opening in a reasonable amount of time then the problem isn't with the igniter and you don't need to bother testing amp draw... Could be a number of things, clogged burner ports near the igniter, incorrect air/ gas ratio, incorrect igniter position (too far away from the burner), incorrect gas pressure. If you can, watch the burner when it lights from a safe distance and see if both sides are igniting at the same time or if it just builds up gas until BOOM! Ha ha, hope you figure it out, be careful.

Fuse for ignition

There is no single fuse for ignition. If if is a major fault with heavy duty circuits ie Glow plugs, Alternator, A/C etc , there are H/D fuse links at the battery positive connection (or close to ) If you mean the ignition on the dash it's most likely a connector problem as wipers / heater / radio / lights/ are protected by multipal fuses and not a single ignition fuse .
