Just picked one of these at random, the thermal paste that helps dissipate heat into the heatsinks cooks out and fails thus resulting in overheating and damage to internal components. You can replace it prior to failure but this voids the warranty on it. By the time you have this problem there is no other solution aside from sending it back to Sony for a refurbished one (free if its still under warranty and for about 190 if its not) but you will lose any saves, if its a BC model then you also lose the BC with the newer replacement (this is not a new PS3 but a refurbished one) could be FAT or could be slim depends on what you had but for sure you will not get a BC refurb. When you send it in Sony will remove and return the disk to you. Good luck and really sorry you have to go through this.

Cant eject disc and red light keep blinking

You have the infamous YLOD, aka. Yellow Light of Death. This is the number 1 cause of pS3's dying. It is an overheating issue linked to your CPU and GPU (the processor chips) You will need to find a local PS3 repair shop who can repair this. Do not try to attempt repairs seen on the internet yourself as some would suggest. You could make things much worse and render the unit totally unresponsive. The repair process takes about 3 hours.

IT CAN BE FIXED*

FOR THE DISC THAT'S STUCK INSIDE?

If you have a unit that is not backwards compatible, any non 60g or 80g then you can retrieve your disc.

Power off the unit using the toggle switch on the back. Hold down the 'eject' button and turn the toggle switch back from off to on. This will run a fan test and eject your disc. Remember, this will only work on the 20, 40g models. Not the backwards compatible units with the 4 usb port holes and the memory card slots.

40g ps3 suddenly stopped mid game, won't eject disc, red light ON, turns green and blue for a moment (when pressed), then yellow light where green is, hums a little bit like the motor wanted to eject but...

I think that u just didn't dust it off enough and the fans could no circulate the hot air well enough and the system ended up damaging its self.

You can go to www.us.playstation.com Click on PlayStation 3<support<Service. The service link can be found in the bottom right hand corner. Just fill out a service report form and then they will ship you a box for you to re-ship your system into for repairs.

Note: If your PS3 is out of warranty you will have to pay $149 for this service with a credit card.

Playstation 3 is freezing up

Your disc drive may be going bad or a connection may be loose. You may want to consider sending it to Sony to get it repaired or if you are savvy enough you can do it yourself but be wary. if you do it yourself your warranty will be no longer applicable. If home works then the system is not overheating as seems to be the issue with most systems.
