My manual shows three possibilities:  1) Insufficient fresh air available for combustion, so ODS kicks off gas flow 2) Low gas line pressure (should be between 11 and 14") or 3) ODS/Pilot is partially clogged.  Toll free number for ProCom is 877-886-5989.

Sounds like your oxygen depletion sensor is shutting your unit off. The problem with fixing your unit is that it may cost you the same to purchase a new one (assuming you pay someone to fix it).

I have a VC Wonderfire model 2610. The pilot flame is perfect blue on both sides... however, when I hit the switch for the main burner to come on...the pilot goes out... any ideas ???


You may have moved the safety sensor or pilot flame tip. The pilot light heats a wire. The wire is the safety sensor. The wire has to be clean and in the pilot flame near the flame tip.

check to make sure that the poilet lite flame is touching the tip or top of the thermocouple.
the pilot lite needs to heat up the thermocouple so that the thermocouple opens the gas to the main gas log. a cold thermocouple shuts off the gas to the main gas log or gas burner and a hot thermocouple opens the gas to the main burner.
the pilot lite flame must be touching the thermocouple to heat it up.
pilot lite orface needs to be clear to let the pilot flame gas through with enough pressure so that the little flame can reach & touch the thermocouple. Pilot lite gas feed tube must be clear to let gas through. Use compressed air or a fine sewing needle, or even carb cleaner to clear out orface hole and gas feed line to pilot lite.

important!! WARNING:
if you use carb cleaner,make sure all the carb cleaner is dry,soaked up with paper towell or kleanex tissue and blowed out with compressed air , because carb cleaner can burn just like gasoline; so any carb cleaner must be compleatly gone before you attempt to lite the pilot lite.

If there is no heat, check the electrical service panel for a burned fuse or tripped breaker. Relight the pilot light (see below).
If there is not enough heat, adjust the burner air shutter (see below); and clean the burner ports (see below).
If the pilot light does not light or does not stay lit, clean the pilot orifice carefully with a toothpick, test the thermocouple and replace it if it is faulty (see below).
If the flame flickers, adjust the pilot (see below).
If there is an exploding sound when the burner ignites, adjust the pilot to a higher setting and clean the pilot orifice and the burner ports.
If the burner takes more than a few seconds to ignite, clean the pilot orifice and adjust the pilot light.
If the burner flame is uneven, clean the burner ports. If the burner flame is very yellow, clean the burner; open vents in the furnace room to provide more air; adjust the burner air shutter.
To light the pilot on a standing-pilot (always on) ignition system, follow the lighting instructions located near the control. Otherwise, try these steps:
Light the pilot:
  1. gasfurnace1.jpg Press and hold the pilot control knob to start the pilot. Set the control knob to the pilot position. Hold a long match under the pilot gas port.
  2. Press the control knob; the pilot should light. Hold the control knob down until the flame is burning brightly (about 30 seconds). Release pressure on the knob, and turn it to the on position.
  3. If the pilot goes out when you release the control knob, try relighting, holding the control knob down longer. If the pilot again goes out, check the thermocouple (below).
Adjust the pilot:
  1. Remove any cap covering the pilot adjusting screw on a combination control.
  2. Turn the adjusting screw counterclockwise to increase the flame or clockwise to decrease it. It is correctly adjusted when the flame envelops the thermocouple bulb by 1/2 inch and appears dark blue with a small yellow tip.
Test and replace a thermocouple:
  1. Hold the control knob to pilot and light the pilot as above.
  2. Unscrew the thermocouple fitting with an open-ended wrench.
  3. Set a multimeter to the DVC (lowest voltage) scale.
  4. Clip one multimeter lead to the end of the thermocouple tube nearest the pilot and the other lead to the fitting on the other end of the tube.
  5. If the multimeter shows a reading besides zero, the thermocouple is functioning. Replace the thermocouple tube.
  6. If there is no reading, you will need to clean or replace the thermocouple following steps 7 through 11.
  7. Release the control knob and shut off the main gas valve on the gas-supply pipe that leads into the burner. Shut off power to the burner at the electrical service panel .
  8. Remove the thermocouple from its mounting bracket.
  9. Wipe the combination control clean and install a new thermocouple, tightening it by hand, then give it a one-quarter turn with a wrench.
  10. Insert the thermocouple into the pilot bracket, being careful to not crimp the tubing.
  11. Turn on power to the furnace and relight the pilot (above).
Adjust an adjustable burner air shutter:
  1. Set the thermostat to its highest setting to keep the burner running. Once the furnace has heated up, remove the burner access panel and loosen the locking screw.
  2. Open the shutter by turning it to the right until the blue base of the flame appears to lift slightly from the burner port surface. Then close the shutter until the flame reseats itself on the surface.
Clean removable burner tubes and ports:
  1. Shut off gas and power to the furnace.
  2. Unscrew or loosen and remove the tubes from the supporting bracket.
  3. Carefully clean the tubes with a brush or vacuum, making sure not to damage the burner ports.
  4. Use a stiff wire to clear any debris from clogged ports.

Pilot light lights but goes out when i turn valve to on


Near the pilot there should be a small metal bulb at the end of what looks like a wire which leads back to the control valve. It's called a thermocouple and it produces a small electrical current when heated. Non-electric heating units have a similar device which does the same job using pressure produced by heating a fluid within the bulb but for our purposes here the difference between the two doesn't matter. The function of the thermocouple is to hold the gas valve open for normal operation of the pilot. If the pilot flame goes out the thermocouple cools and disables the valve so that when the thermostat calls for heat, the gas will not be released if there is no pilot to light the burner. Check to make sure the bulb is being heated by the pilot flame, it may need to be repositioned or the pilot may need to be cleaned of carbon buildup to make it produce an adequate flame. If the thermocouple is close enough to an adequate pilot flame and still you cannot sustain the pilot flame when going from "pilot" to "on" position, the thermocouple is probably the problem so replace it. If the problem still exists, assuming you have already made certain that you have an adequate fuel supply, the problem is in the burner control valve. Changing that is something you should consider leaving to a qualified service person.

What could be wrong with ruud farnace 80% when the burners slow down and start making noise like is not gas pression and the pilot shut off.


I would first concentrate on the pilot flame, and thermocouple. Make sure pilot flame is good and strong , and thermocouple end above flame is cleaned well. If flame appears proper, sometimes a good rub down on thermocouple end with fine steel wool will do the trick. The thermocouple senses the heat from the pilot and thus signals gas valve that it's ok to send gas for operation. If debris collects on that thermocouple and it doesn't sense proper heat from pilot flame, it will not signal gas valve to open.

On my patio heater the pilot light will light but goes out as soon as I release it, even after holding it down a long time. I can't get it to stay on to light the heater.


Check that the pilot light is directed at the thermocouple, a copper 'tube' that heats up when the pilot light is lit. You should be able to see a copper coloured small tube that the pilot light is directed at - if the pilot flame is not heating that tube then the main burner will not light.

If the thermocouple is being heated correctly, then it could be a fault with the thermocouple itself (can be replaced) or the gas valve.

If the pilot flame is not heating the end of the thermocouple you should be able to adjust its position so that the pilot flame is directed at it more accurately

Pilot lights but main burner dose not light when turned on


possibly a fowled thermocouple if the thermocouple doesn's sense the pilot flame then it will not send a signal to the gas valve telling it that its okay to open cause the pilot is lit.

Hi

If it won’t fire then it is possible that the oven control is not sending gas for the pilot light. The pilot light works but no main burner ignition - possible pilot assembly is dirty and the pilot flame is too small, safety valve and thermocouple is faulty, the bulb from the safety valve is out of position and the pilot flame is not touching the thermocouple bulb. Some ranges use a standing pilot light ( small flame is on all the time ) while others use an spark ignition to light the pilot light flame and the pilot light flame heats up the thermocouple bulb to allow the main gas to flow through the oven burner.
The flame needs to heat the bulb up enough to tell it to open the gas valve. Several things can go wrong here that keep this from happening:
The pilot flame may not be hot enough, usually because the flame is yellow instead of pure blue or is too small. The cause for this is usually a dirty pilot assembly. The pilot assembly would either need to be cleaned or replaced.
The thermocouple bulb may not be positioned properly in the flame. You can't heat the bulb properly if it's not in the pilot flame! The thermocouple bulb needs to be in the upper third of a pure blue pilot flame--that's the hottest part of the flame.
The thermocouple itself may be burned out. It happens. It's an internal part of the gas valve so, no, you can't just change the thermocouple bulb separate from the gas valve.
But when you turn on the oven or the thermostat calls for heat, the pilot flame gets bigger and jumps down so it can heat up the thermocouple bulb. This extra gas to increase the pilot flame size comes from the thermostat.
If the pilot flame jumps upwards or just gets bigger, but doesn't shoot down, then you need to replace the pilot assembly.
If the pilot flame size does not increase or jump down when turning on the oven thermostat, then the problem is the thermostat not sending enough gas to the pilot assembly. It's also possible that the pilot gas supply tube has a hole in it somewhere.
One final point on the spark-assisted pilot ignition systems. The spark comes from the spark module--the same module that sends spark to your surface burners to light them up. If you're not getting a spark when you turn the oven on, then there are several possibilities:
There could be a problem with the switch in the thermostat. You can confirm this by doing a simple continuity test of the thermostat contacts. If you don't read zero ohms when you turn the switch on, replace the thermostat.
The spark module could be bad. You'll need to measure the voltage at the oven terminals of the spark module when you turn on the oven. If you get 120v but no spark, it's probably a bad spark module. Replace it.
Could be a bad spark wire or broken electrode.

Propane patio heater ignition problem


I would change the thermocouple and here is why:

The thermocouple is the pilot's, well, co-pilot! It is the electronic device that senses if the pilot flame is hot enough to sustain burning the gas fuel from the burner. If the thermocouple thinks it's safe, then it keeps open the main gas valve located in the pilot assembly. If the thermocouple does not sense enough heat from the pilot flame (such as when the pilot is out), then the thermocouple shuts off the gas valve to the burners.
How the Thermocouple Works
So what is this thing and how does it work? Well the thermocouple (technically called a thermocouple junction) is a device that contains two metal wires welded at the ends and placed inside a protective metal case. The thermocouple sensor is found at the business end of the pilot flame and is designed to be placed in the hottest part of the flame. The other end is connected to the pilot valve body. As the thermocouple heats up, it produces a small amount of electricity and when it gets hot enough from the pilot, send a signal to open the gas valve by using a solenoid operated by a 24 volt transformer. The thermocouple calls the shots, and by converting heat to an electrical signal, it allows the gas valve to open or close. Once the gas valve is open, gas is then constantly supplied to the pilot and as required for the gas burners (as called for by the thermostat). If the pilot goes out, then the thermocouple gets cold and produces no electric signal to open the gas valve's solenoid and the gas valve shuts off the gas supply to the pilot and burners

Pilot flame starved out after burners ignite


The declining pilot light might be an indication it is being starved of oxygen by the main burners or some other sort of circumstance.

I have noticed how in a closed room without ventilation the pilot light soon begins to decline and then springs back again when a window or door is opened while the main burners are hardly affected.

This is the gas equivalent of sending canaries down coal mines and is an essential safety feature. If the pilot light declines very much the thermocouple bulb will not be heated and the gas supply to the main burners will be cut off. This is why the pilot light is set at an angle and the thermocouple bulb is slightly offset.
