The unit could have a problem , or the WWV signal might not be being detected. The radio has to be left on, usually between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m., when the signal is the strongest (since it's short wave). I got a different brand, and it was just flashing on and off...but at 9 p.m. it picked up the signal and set itself.
Leave it near a window, and away from a lot of electrical activity in the house, and see if it sets. If it was a Xmas present or purchased recently, and doesn't reset within a day, it could be defective. Have it exchanged, or refunded.
Here's Emerson's support site, should you need it:

Good luck, and hope this helps.

Hi,

It is asking for the time signal.Try moving the clock/radio to another area in the house. The atomic clock will pick up the signal from Boulder, Colorado is on a frequency of 60 kHz. Unfortunately house current 120 volt is also 60 kHz and may be interfering with the signal.

Hope this manual will help you out solving the problem
The CKA1000 series will have same manual. So you can use this manual for reference.

My Emerson CKA1000 clock radio worked great for years, but now it eats the battery back up, battery will go dead in a month or so and if I set the alarm for radio it will show the 20 ne message when the...

Sounds like the main power supply may have gone bad and you are strictly running off the battery. This is why it works fine for a while when you install a new battery, that is until that battery drains and gets too low. The radio won't play because it is preserving battery life. I bet you could unplug it from the wall and would get the same results. You essentially have a battery powered clock right now. To test this theory simply remove the battery, plug the clock up and see if it comes on. My guess is it will only work with the battery installed.

S10Scan atomic clock model 87310 time is 4;pm should be 10:am

Hi

Time zone setting
Language Setting
The weekdays can be displayed in LCD1 with the pre-set languages: US English, French and Spanish.
1. Set the desired language for the weekday display in LCD 2 by use of the + key.
2. Press the SET key to enter the mode “Manual Time Setting”.
Manual Time Setting
In case the Skyscan Atomic Clock is not able to detect the WWVB-signal (disturbances, transmitting distance, etc.), the time can be manually set. The clock will then work as a normal Quartz clock.
Note:
In 12 hours mode the time will be displayed with an additional “PM” for the time from 12:00 noon until 11:59.
1. The hour digits will start flashing on LCD1. Set the desired hours by pressing the +key followed by pressing the SET key.
2. Now the minute digits will start flashing. Set the desired minutes by pressing the +key . If the + key is held, the units will increase by 5.
3. Press the SET key to move to the “Year Setting”.
Note:
The unit will still try and receive the signal every day despite it being manually set. When it does receive the signal, it will change the manually set time into the received time. During reception attempts the WWVB tower icon will flash. If reception has been unsuccessful, then the WWVB tower icon will not appear but reception will still be attempted the following hour.
WWVB time reception takes place from 12:00 am through 6:00 am each day (attempts WWVB reception every full hour within this time frame). When the time signal is received for example at 1:00 am, the Skyscan Atomic Clock will not attempt to receive the WWVB signal for the remaining hours until 6:00 am. Therefore, the next signal attempt will take place between 12:00 am and 6:00 am the next day. The other times WWVB reception takes place, are upon setup and after manual time set exiting mode. Reception is generally not possible during daylight hours due to the interference of the sun.

Temperature sensor

I have this clock and just finished getting it all working again. At first I kept messing around with the AAA batteries in the remote unit, finally realized there were AA batts in the back of the main clock/display unit. Replaced those, pressed the reset button next to the battery compartment. Pressed the reset button on the remote unit (it's under the back lid next to the AAA battery compartment). Little red light on the remote unit started flashing and remote temp showed on the main display. Then you have to wait for atomic time to reset itself or set the time and other display options manually - I kept messing around with the various buttons until I figured out how to do this (atomic time never reset) - start by holding down the smaller "AL" button on the top next to the big snooze/light button, use top two side buttons for up/down, use the AL button to go to next setting.

Savings time

This is more of a Clarification than a solution.
I've determined that the SS-5000 is not recognizing the changes to DST that happened in 2007.

From 1986 to 2006 this was the first Sunday in April to the last Sunday in October, but starting in 2007, it is observed from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November, adding about a month to daylight saving time.

So in March the clock is still trying to keep the "earler" time and in November it's trying to keep the 'later' time.

I'm contacting HomeMedics Support to see if there's a resolution.
