Question about Homelite Mighty Lite Lawn Trimmer

1 Answer

Homelite 'Mighty Lite'. Maybe used 3 times but overall less than an hours use. More than one year old so out of Bunnings warranty. Problem.... Recoil start.... Plastic component that cord winds on and plastic component that engages pawls on motor are both dammaged in a way that lets top of shock spring bend and jam up the free movement of the whole assembly. Carefull straightening of spring and reassembly the recoil start system works fine. Reassembly with the motor and 'spark plug out' the recoil works smoothly, 20/30 pulls. However when the spark plug is replaced and the starting unit comes up against the compression of the motor only a couple of pulls can be achieved before jamming up again. Question. Will replacing the two plastic parts and a new shock spring fix the problem 'long term' or is there a good chance the same will occur again? Four times I dismantled and reassembled with the same result. The fifth time the pull start spring did a 'birds nest' again so there it all sits. What to do? Throw away? Regards. To ftw1952.

My question is . . . . Will replacing the two plastic components and spring fix the problem [longterm] or will the same problem happen again? Is this machine a throw away?

Most likely I would purchase something other than a Homelite model They are the worst ones to have this problem

Where do I get spare parts for an Ozito SDS chuck?

it is bunnings brand - go to closest bunnings and if it is less than two years old (most of them have two years home user warranty), just ask for replacement, damaged chuck is actually warranty repair.

if it is more than two years old, you can buy spares (not all unfortunately!) through bunnings as well, if you are smart enough and you lost one of the springs or screw - these are on the shelf... if you broke or lose the jaw - it is still warranty... even after 2 years, in oz there is no strict warranty term, if bunnings refuses to co-operate, go to the consumer affairs in your state and lodge complaint.

hope this short info will help you - do not forget to vote...

How much oil do you use? in the mighty lite

Homelite Mighty Lite engines require the gas/oil ratio to be mixed at 50:1. That is 2.6 ounces of oil per gallon or 1.3 ounces of 2 stroke oil per half gallon of gas. I recommend using synthetic oil. It lubricates much better, allows the engine to run cooler and smokes less.

The gap on my 18 year old Homelite ST-185 is 0.025. Since they are still using simple and reliable magnetos, yours should be the same.

the problem is in the carburetor most likely, it may be cleaned and adjusted, if not it will likely need a new carb

How much oil do i put in the gas for my homelite gas blower

Probably be best if you supplied the model number off the unit, but it's pretty safe to say that if it is a newer model (less than 15 years old) if you bought a very good brand of synthetic 2-cycle oil, you would be safe mixing it at 40:1. (About 3.2 oz per gallon)

Don't use regular auto engine oil, make sure it's for lawnmowers/motorcycles, etc.

I have a Homelite 26vt Mighty Lite that will only start when I dump gas straight in the carburetor after it uses that gas it will not start

you have 1 of 3 things wrong
1 you have pluged jets
2 you have a pluged fuel filter
3 you have a stuck float
4 fuel line is crimped

1 2 3 4 thats all it can be
preasurise the fuel tank by blowing into it when almost empty
this will as times clear jets
if fuel line kinked un twist it
best bet buy a rebuild kit for the carb and enjoy some time with a screw driver

Homelite Might lite will start but not run

Check the fuel lines for cracks/breaks. If they are o.k., then:

You will need to disassemble the carburetor and spray with carb.cleaner. Make sure the small screen is free of debris. (Should be able to see daylight through it.)

Use a Den Tek Brush, (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=165357&catid=1152),to clean the small portals in carb. These portals can become blocked. Reassemble and start.

If the carb. parts are more than 4 years old, you may have to replace them.

If you need further assistance on:
1. Fuel line replacement or
2. Carburetor kit replacement
Just let me know.

Correct gas to oil ratio for Homelite Mighty String Trimmer Model

most trimmers are 50:1. or 40:1. i would use synthetic 2 cycle oil and use the 50:1 ratio. i know guys with trimmers that require 50:1, and they use synthetic at 80:1 with no problems for years. they say the engine runs cleaner. i am a part-time lawn care operator.
