Question about Patton U2-1487 Floor / Box Fan

1 Answer

I was trying to install a fan control switch on my Patton floor fan and took the 3 speed switch out and disconnected the wires and cannot figure out what wires (too many colored wires) to connect to the 2 wires on the fan control switch. can you help me? There are 6 wires coming out of the motor wiring group (red, yellow, white, grey, blue and black). I was assuming that 1 of the black wires from the wall plug went directly to the motor and the other black wire from wall plug went thru the fan control switch..

Thr issue you are having you need to look on the motor and see if there is a diagram but you have to use the grey and white for a capacitor because i have an older fan that has no capacitor. and use the red for high

Need a wiring diagram for 3 speed patton floor fan

A three way switch has 3 terminals, these for floor fans operate by a rotary switch but can be adapted to use any 120V Rotary toggle or rocker type switch. technically your compartment (or room provided will determine which to use). I'd suggest you replace it with one like the one that no longer works. The one good thing about fans the direction they rotate in is already determined, and with a/c current it will work even if you connect it up wrong! If it work's then fine don't over think it

3 speed ceiling fan switch installation

Fan is wired wrong, but you need to test using multi-meter.
Buy cheap multimet from hardware, install battery, set to read ohms or the upside down horseshoe symbol
Copy following link for testing wires:

I have a 3 speed fan with a red, blue, black an white wires, how are the supposed to be wired with power. the wires go to a little black box that appears to just be wires with no circuit board

The BOX is a GE splicer - with 6 wires - 2 grey power wires, then the red, blue, black, and white from the fan motor. I have the same problem and cannot find another GE SPLICER 3 SPEED SWITCH for the fan. All switches that I have tried have 4 connections.........so a WIRING DIAGRAM would be GREAT!

Can anyone offer any help? I have tried every electrical store in the area!

Thanks

Fan keeps cutting off after being taken apart and cleaned

If it was wired wrong it wouldn't run. I would suspect uneven tightening of the motor screws.

Floor fan has stopped working

As the manual push buttons don't work, it is possible the remote and receiver are working ok and the fault is elsewhere on the pcb and is perhaps something your local tv and radio repair shop could tackle.

The motor speed control is probably achieved by electronic rather than electrical methods and it would be more practical to repair the existing system than to attempt modification - finding a suitable 4-position switch capable of reliable operation with an inductive load of nearly 3 amps (plus safety margin) presents one problem, matching it to a method of speed control and installing it neatly and safely is quite another.

Practically speaking and considering the low cost of imported fans, such a conversion is not worth carrying out. There is a worthwhile alternative however...
In the old days there was a ready market for an easy method of controlling the speed of small electric motors and the introduction of the diac and triac and the thyristor made it possible and soon the papers and magazines filled with adverts such as "Control Drill Speeds". That was just the beginning as the success of such devices spawned a host of power controllers and dimmer switches in steps or continuously with just a single control.

You could construct such a device from one of the many available project circuits or buy a power controller ready built. A good one is not cheap but should last a long, long time.
A standard dimmer switch might handle the job but dimmer switches aren't usually suitable for an inductive load.

I hope I have provided food for thought and further research. Good luck!
