Yes, firing a shot-gun at a "dead" disk-drive is one way to GUARANTEE that nobody will ever be able to pull ANY data off the computer.

Any 20GB disk-drive is _very_ old, and definitely is OUT_OF_WARRANTY.

Your best bet is to replace the drive. An exact replacement can be bought online for less than $40 at http://www.impactcomputers.com/08k9763.html. Reload your operating system. If you want to try to recover your data files, you can get a USB external drive enclosure and see if the drive can be recognized so that you can pull data files to your new drive. Commercial recovery of the drive is prohibitively expensive. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks.

Are you sure that it your hard drive since you have not stated what is happening with your computer i have to make a guess
One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up
Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA
the leads from your motherboard to your hard drive make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they are probably old and faulty ?
hope this helps

If i dropped my laptop and it says same thing about check cable connection no atheros ethernet controller and i tried the bios set up and it still dont work, does it mean my hard drive is shot?

Yes the hard drive could be faulty. Hard drives are easily damage by dropping them. If the BIOS cannot detect the hard drive then the hard drive is faulty and this hard drive needs to be replaced then Windows needs to be installed on the new hard drive.

How do you export images from the Sony Cyber-shot haRD DRIVE TO THE COMPUTER

Its quite easy just remove the Memory card from the Cyber shot

put it into the card reader and connect with your PC and simply copy and paste the images from card to PC.

You can also connect the Cyber shot directly to the PC using the USB data cable given with the Camera. When you do this a new drive will appear in My Computer now just copy the images from that new drive to anywhere in PC

I have a Dell Vostro 1000 error code 0146. I think it's a hard drive failure. Is my hard drive shot and what can I do?

Hi,

Based on Dell Pre-Boot System Assessment (PSA) Diagnostics and Error Codes For Dell Computers - KB Article - 300428, it is a Hard Drive failure, and you need to replace the Hard Drive.

I suggest to try reinstall windows first before you replace the Hard Drive.

Hope it helps you. =)

Sony recommends to use the preinstalled Hard Drive as the Recovery Discs works with the specific Hard Drive. However, you can add additional Hard Drive to the Computer.

Time machine won't backup reliably. It recognizes the MyBook drive, but after a few days of doing backups, it fails to recognize the drive anymore.

either the usb port on your computer is shot, or the drive is shot altogether. you may just want to get a new one. mine cost $9.87 and it's the same as the one you have.
