select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall
hope this helps
if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem

Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

Remove the drive from your computer, and temporarily connect it to another desktop computer.
If it still does not work, then it's time to responsibly recycle it, and spend $40 to purchase a new CD/DVD reader/writer.

XP can't find ND-1100A drive

Hi,

Thanks for coming to FixYa, The problem you have is either a well documented software problem or a failing drive.

Click the below link, then scroll down and click the "Fix It" button. Follow the onscreen instructions, restart when it's done and see if your drive re-appears. If it does, you're done, if it doesn't work then your drive is most likely failed and you should replace it.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Compaq V2000 - Service Tag V2220US Only recognizes the CD/DVD drive as "CD" Does not see it as a DVD Drive. Listed as: _NEC DVD+-RW ND-6500A in Device Manager.

Try updating your drivers from www.hp.com

If the issue is that it won't play DVD movies only then you probably need to install or re-install the DVD player software that should have come with your computer. If you don't have it anymore, simply download from HP.

CD/DVD won't eject, won't play, Device Manager doesn't recognize.

If it's only 8 months old, then you have atleast 4 months left on your warranty. The problem will either be the ide controller channel or the dvd drive and firmware has faulted, the same fault probably happens when you have put a dvd in and it wont read or eject. Return to the place of purchase, where the drive should be replaced or the notebook exchanged.

first try a audio CD see if ti reads that fine. then inset a data CD and see if you can see all the files on it. Try a few data and audio CD's. If it has trouble with any of these your drive has gone to the great garbage dump in the sky.

Try uninstalling any burning programme you have, restart the pc and install the programme you require. If it continues you may need to uninstall the drive, by way of :- my computer>properties>hardware tab>device manager and look down list to dvd/cdrom drives and click '+' sign to your dvd line and right click and uninstall. Restart pc and it will automaticaly install again, ready for use.
