It may be possible that you have had the camera pointing at the sun for too long and burned a portion of your image sensor. If this is the case, as you zoom the lens the size of the burned/dead area may increase.

Ecently a small dull black dot has started appearing on my canon power shot A630's lcd screen but when I review the pics taken prior to when I noticed this problem, no dot appears.

1) this is indicative the lcd camera has been faulty.
2) you must replace it.
3) contact your company supplier, and get the parts, you can do it yourself, only need small screwdrivers and common sense.
God bless you

Powershot SD1000 as webcam

I tired to do this with my SD600 and could not figure it out but I think it is possible with some changes to the camera like this

anyway I have not tried it because they don't support the sd600 so I have no idea if this is safe or works.

Sd 600 CAMERA LCD PROBLEM

I might make sure that the lcd panel and backlight are sufficiently attached. It is fairly easy to take apart the camera with a small screw driver. You might want to take it apart and push the two ribbon cables in tighter and then try again. (Make sure to take out the battery first)

images of the the dissasemby are on this page:
Disasembly of Canon Powershot SD.

Great disscussion of LCD assembly.

Good luck!
