Acer aspire 3620 keyboard problem number key wont work only symbols in shift mode appearing

This indicates one of your Shift keys is stuck. It's not the top of key, but the contacts below are connected, even when you are not pressing the key.
Repairing a laptop keyboard is not easy, because in most models the keyboard is sealed.
One option would be to replace the keyboard. But this could be costly.
The other option is to disable the keyboard and use an external keyboard, a flexible (rubber) keyboard is recommended if the laptop travels with you.

Hold down the blue "fn" button when you press the key, it will give you the alternate character.

Keyboard functions changed

Sounds much like the shift key (on the right of the keyboard obviously) has got stuck. Or possibly your cat has managed to turn on the marvel that is StickyKeys.

On these keyboards, the non colored symbols are typed by holding down the shift key and tapping the symbol. If you want to type the colored key, then you have to hold down the Alt Gr key and tap the colored symbol key.

Bilingual keyboard

There is a small green Fn button near the start button you will have to use this with shift to use the green keys if you are in multi lingual mode, if you only use the laptop for french you can also change the regional settings for the keyboard to Just French and then they will work just by using shift.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

Keyboard don-t show the correct symbols

Your keyboard setting in Control panel regional and language options is probably set to US International.
This option allow you to create every special character using combined keys see this page for MS instruction>
If you have a localized keybord (Portuguise, Brazilian or else) you can get the symbol corresponding with keys if you configure the exact keyboard instead of US international.
Of course for same language you can configure multiple keybord.
You can also use for every language the On screen Keyboard you get in Start/program/accessories/ accessibility

Hitachi flora laptop and problems with typing @ symbol

Using it in English mode? Does that mean that Windows is set to English??

Does it have a standard QWERTY english keyboard?? If it has a japanese keyboard, with windows set to English, then the keys will be different. Shift key with number 2 gives you the @ symbol on a QWERTY english keyboard.
