Washing machine is leaking at bottom of tub - Washing Machines

    Amana LW611LB.Stainless, top loader, 14ga+

After operating inspection it appears to be the tub agitator drive seal.

    Replacement bell&seal kit at repairclinic.com is $23.70

A New similar unit would cost$600+ and, as this belongs to my son-in-law's mom, I may have a go fixing it.

But , I have never pulled a washers agitator out..just motors,belts.pumps...so have little idea of the correct procedure here... I am quite mechanically adept.. just ignorant here...

Might get a Craigslist temporary unit ($100 or >) to keep the gal in clean clothes while I work over the Amana.. can always resell it....

The Amana looks like new inside and behind the front panel No rust or wear.... just a bit of water leaking on wash cycle.

Any recomendable sites out there with decent descriptions of this job?

    Thanks for your reply

    Holy Terror..

Thanks...I would never have guessed how to pull the agitator...

I saw no nuts on top, so I was stymied.

Shall attempt this soon and let ya know what transpires.... or busts... thanks.

This could be alot of things. Can you give a Make, and Model Number? Is this a Top Loader or a Front loader.

If its a top loader, Unplug the unit first and then remove the front panel, is the front panel removable? Some are not removable.

Once you have the front off it could be as simple as a hose has a hole in it, or worse the tub seal is leaking and you need a complete rebuild or replace the machine.

Also check the hoses coming to the machine and see if they are leaking or if the drain hose has a problem? or is the water coming from somewhere else, sink next to machine? or drain is plugged or very slow and water is coming out of the drain during spin. Please advise if you need further help

You have a Speed Queen built Amana, parts are still available. go to Partselect.com and type in model LW611, then parts description tub seal.

The agitator just pulls out however its not always that easy. Get you fingers under both sides and pull up, you may have to walk it off., Sometimes we fill the tub with the hottest water possible let it sit afew minutes then drain and try pulling the agitator straight up and out. We also have been known to go into a Laundromat and just break the agitator with a hammer because it would come off, however I wouldnt recommend that.

You will find all the parts you need from any good parts house, however you will need a few speciality tools to install parts, The drive bell seal uses a special tool to install it and the tub nut is a large nut, this will come out with a large socket, However we use the Speed Queen Wrench and a small sledge.

Clean the tub seal area very well and make sure its dry when you apply the red glue, Apply just a nice bead of red 800 glue around tub seal flange then push seal down and on. I like to put a small drip of water on the new white ceramic seal, if you get a brass one, just as good! apply a drip of lite oil when you first start the washer run a very brief spin then fill with water and rinse out machine, I always advise customers to leave the lid open and wait 24 hrs for glue to dry.

let me know if you have questions.

Water coming out of the bottom of the machine

Sometimes, what may seem like a washing machine leaking from bottom locations is actually one that leaks slowly from other spots. Slow leaks can accumulate beneath your washing machine making it seem like you have a bottom leak. For more help identifying the exact point of the leak, see Washing machine leaking.

Bottom leaks may be better identified using a newspaper. Just dry the floor and lay the newspaper beneath the washing machine before you test for leaks. Darkened sections map out your water leak. This method is not always foolproof, however. The best diagnosis will come from a qualified service professional inspecting your machine.

If your washing machine is leaking from bottom in the rear, you may need a replacement pump and professional installation. The leak could also be caused by a faulty air dome seal or a hole in the tub. For more troubleshooting steps to tackle that leak, see Washing machine leaking from bottom. I hope that helps!

My GE topload washing machine is leaking

Check the hose that connects to the bottom of the tub to the drain hose. Make sure that hose is securely fastened.

Leaking from the kenmore washing machine

Any part of the machine that has water contact is a possible source of the leak. Look for the highest (elevation) wet spot--that will be close. The tub has a couple of rubber connections--one on the side for water level sense and another for water drain on the bottom. If the tub itself has a rusted out spot, it can be repaired with epoxy cement (from inside the tub). It will be necessary to remove the inner tub assembly to get to the outer tub.

What is the model number? and year made?

Hose could be loose and leaking. Check and tighten all hoses first if problem persists, check if water valve is leaking. If not check the tub for leaks. If tub is leaking you may not want to fix as this is an expensive problem. If you want to fix use part number and call First Source Parts and as for a Washing Machine Tub.

My washing machine is leaking from bottom.

It is possible the shaft seal on the bottom of the plastic tub has failed, if you can remove the front cover you should be able to pinpoint the area where it is leaking.
It could also be the large hose running from the bottom of the tub to the water pump, may be split from age.
Also check the inlet hose for leaks
Hope this has helped

Leaking below washer

Sounds like you have a leak from the tub. Either the seal in the bottom of the tub or a hole in the tub.
When you run it again try feeling around the bottom center of the tub for water or try to see if water is leaking any where out of tub. Clear water would be from the supply line , soapy water would be from tub or a hose coming out of tub.

GE Top load washer.

Hello rschneeweis
Welcome,

Sounds like a seal or drain hose is leaking or the clamp on a hose has vibrated loose.

Water leaking out the bottom of the machine when washing machine begins agitation cycle. If the machine is turned off the water stops leaking even with the tub full of water.

Let me know if you found it and how you do.
