Question about HTC Shadow Smartphone

1 Answer

Shadow not connecting on internet sharing..

I am trying to get the internet sharing to work on my Shadow to use it as a wireless modem for my computer. I can get the active sync to recognise my phone but when i try and use it as the modem the phone says "check usb cable" i already went out and replaced the cable. When i follow the appropriate steps to get the internet sharing to work the hardware wizard comes on on my computer and when i choose to install it tells me "the driver installation for this device is missing a necessary entry. This maybe because the INF was written for windows 95 or later. Contact your hardware vendor" I have already called t-mobile and been on the phone with them for hours at end. still no solution. I am running xp on the computer now...already ran a bunch of windows updates....any assistance would be helpful :D

I've been having the same trouble just the last few days. I use the internet sharing almost every day, then about three days ago it stopped working. Nothing was changed on my phone or my PC, it just doesn't work any more. Will try the ActiveSync unistall/install, but perplexed why it just quit working.

Uninstall ActiveSync.
Reboot.
Download ActiveSync 4.5 from Microsoft.
Install ActiveSync
Do not connect the phone to the PC via USB yet.
In the phone, goto Internet Sharing, select the internet connection and select "USB", and click connect.
Afterwards, connect the USB to the PC.
Wait up to 30 seconds and vola! You have internet access.

I hooked up my D'link to modem and computer and connection is good. But i can't find it when i search on laptop wireless connection. I think you need i driver but i can't find one. Thank You

The Network and Sharing Center in Microsoft* Windows Vista* can be used to set up a secure wireless connection to the Internet.

Note: If an Internet connection is not automatically made by the operating system, you may need to contact your access point (AP), broadband wireless router manufacturer, or Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Set Up a Secure Wireless Connection to the Internet

These steps assume that your network adapter; AP or router; and cable, DSL or another type of modem have already been physically connected and configured. They allow you to create a new connection and configure it accordingly.

Follow these steps to set up a secure wireless connection to the Internet.

Note: If a wireless profile does not exist, you will need to create a secure wireless profile before you can set up a wireless connection to the Internet.

1. Access the Network and Sharing Center.

2. Select Set up a connection or network.

3. Click Connect to the Internet.

cs025389_selectanetwork_configurationnotmatching.jpg

4. Click Next.

5. Select Wireless. At this point, if the network(s) that are listed say that the network settings do not match the network requirements, as shown in Figure 1, create a secure wireless profile and then follow the steps again.

6. Select a network and click Connect. If you are not connected to the Internet, you may need to contact your AP/router manufacturer or ISP.

Access the Network and Sharing Center

To access the Network and Sharing Center, use one of the following methods:
  • Start » Control Panel » Network and Internet » Network and Sharing Center
  • Start » Network » Network and Sharing Center
  • Right-click the network system tray icon (the icon that displays two computer monitors) » Network and Sharing Center

Tip

Share Your Internet Connection with More Than One Computer- The Easy Way

Here is a simple way share your home internet connection with more than one computer. This will work for both wired and wireless and doesn't require alot of technical or computer skills to accomplish. I'm sure there are other ways, but if you're looking for a simple repeatable setup, here it is.

If you've got a dsl connection through a dsl modem, this TIP will work for you.
If you've got a cable modem, this TIP will work just as well.

Here's a list of what you'll need.

  1. Dsl or cable modem that works on your system and you can access internet with one computer (If you're using the internet, most likely you've got this already).
  2. Wired (Ethernet) or Wireless Router (wifi routers have 4-6 ethernet ports also).
  3. For Wired: Ethernet cable to connect modem to router.
  4. For Wireless: Wifi compatible computer or wifi card for your computer (follow manufacturer's instructions for proper install).
Procedure:
  1. Turn all components off. This includes anything on your existing network- computer, modem, printer and any router you may currently be using.
  2. With all power off, connect an ethernet cable between your modem and your new cable/dsl router(wired or wireless).
  3. Turn on the power to your new router only and let it boot up completely.
  4. Turn on the dsl/cable modem and allow it to boot. Since the router was booted first, the modem with recognize the router's MAC address (ethernet numerical address) and connect that address to the internet.
  5. Connect all the other components onto the router with the ethernet cables as needed and turn on the components- no particular order is necessary after the router and modem are booted. Your router will assign MAC addresses to all the ethernet components. Once the MAC address is assigned, your computer should work correctly with the internet and shouldn't drop out when the second computer is turned on.
  6. For wireless connections, boot up your computer with the properly installed Wifi card, airport card and allow it to "find" your router. Once you get confirmation of the signal, you're good to go.
Following this procedure will allow your modem, your router to use their designed software to connect you without a bunch of programming. You will actually enjoy having more than one computer sharing an internet connection.

Remember this procedure and follow the steps again if you lose power and have to reboot your network.

I want drivers to use my phone as a modem on win vista.

Hi,

Click on the link below to download the Software for your Phone to access internet on PC

Ways to connect or access internet below :

When you connected your Diamond to your PC, what did it get recognized as?
What does it show up as in your PC's Device Manager?
On your device, do you have Internet Sharing or Wireless Modem? If it is Wireless Modem, after you connect your device to your PC, you Start Wireless Modem and that should install the Modem Drivers.
If you have Internet Sharing, what is the message you get on the device after tap connect (Check USB, Disconnected, etc.)?

Try updating active sync software to the latest, at least 4.5 I'd think. Not sure if there's a newer version out.

Also,
Connect your phone to your pc by using the USB cable provided with your phone. On your phone you should go to Window Icon at top left corner of screen, then go to Programs on the drop down menu. From there choose Internet Sharing. Once you tap Internet Sharing you will be prompted at the bottom left of the screen to Connect. Tap Connect and then you will see your pc recognize the connection on the bottom right of computer screen. It will install the drivers and then from there you are good to go. Hope this helps!

Thank you for contacting FixYa

I can't get the internet sharing to work. i had installed and configure the wireless router, Linksys WRTG45 connected to a desktop pc running win7. internet sharing is enabled on the modem. now we're using...

If you are using the wireless router then you will not use the Ad-hoc mode.
You aloso don't need to share the internet on the modem.
make sure that if you conecnt the computer directly to the modem, it goes on line.
If it is on line then you can connect the modem to the router and computer to the router.
open the setup page and change the settings of the router.
once ytou setup the router then you should be able to go on line on all the computer.
You just need to connect to the network on other computers.

The answer that he gave you is not accurate. In fact you can use your wireless over dial-up. This however takes a little work. You will need to setup internet connection sharing on your desktop with the modem. If you can get the sharing working, then you can use your ethernet card on your PC to transfer the internet back to your wireless router.

This will work, it has been a few years since I have done it, but I used it this way for several years.

Connecting Laptop wireless and Desktop wired to the router

Do you need to see the desktop or just share folders from each other? If the latter then you need to do the following:

Use Windows Explorer and select a folder you want to share. Right click and select sharing and security.

On the sharing tab click on Share this folder. Enter a share name ( I like to enter the PC name _folder name; Rick1_Downloads)

Click on Permissions. If your ok with everyone using the PC's and Laptops having access then highlight Everyone and click on Full Control.

Do this on each PC and Laptop.

That should be it or darned near close.

No internet when connected to router

  • Reinstall product as per user manual exactly & connect router directly to the MODEM.
  • Try connecting with a wire [ethernet] cable at first to set up PSK (personal shared key).
  • Ensure PSK is correct at log on to network on wireless device.

Exactly ASUS WL-500g, no internet connection

My advice and personal experiences with both wired and wireless connectivity, is if you wish to share files and internet connection, purchase a combined Modem/Router and not a seperate router to work along side your original modem. Your modem will send your router an ip address in turn your pc is sent one from your router and can get complicated; keep it simple! These are much easier to set up and control as one unit and if there are ever any connection problems you will know it's either a setting or a modem/router problem and not have to wonder ; is it the modem?; Router? settings? etc. As there are frequent loss of connections both internet and LAN it makes sense have one peice of equipment to maintain.
