1 Answer

Pfaff 1222 I have this pfaff I got at an estate sale I fix the on off switch I bought a power cord. The machine turns on but the presser foot does not go up and down. You can't turn the wheel even though the belts are in perfect condition as well as the cam shaft. The manuel does not tell me much I think I do not know how to use this machine or something is seized up! I would like to get it up and running. Any ideas?

With power off, needle out, no presser foot, remove top cover off of the machine. Left side cover (light area) has 2 flathead screws deep inside the cover. No need to remove the screws, just loosen the up and the cover can be removed by pulling it out. Now you'll see the light bulb, remove the bulb. On the bulb holder there is 1 screw that secures it, remove the holder. Now actuate the lifter lever, you'll see where it is attached to. It has a small screw that holds it, it might have come off.

There are three positions for the presser foot lever.

    1. Up position is for loading your thread into the bobbin while it's on top spinning. The presser foot is not engaged at this time.

    2. Middle position is the same as needle down presser up to move material to different direction. The balance wheel will be in the unlock position and can be operated as normal.

    3. Down position will be the same as normal operating position.

    4. This position exist but I'm not sure what it's for. I think it's for free position doing embroidery.

    5. Do not go beyond number 4, you will break the lever handle and have to find this part in ebay.

The lever for the presser foot has three height selections, lower it to 5 o-clock position facing the machine.

There are three settings for the presser bar lever.

    1. All the way up will lock the balance wheel, keep the presser foot in the lock or up position. This setting is for winding the bobbin using the winder. Nothing moves except the bobbin winder ensuring your safety from dangerous traditional moving parts.

    2. At the 3 o-clock position, the presser foot will be locked in the up position and engage the needle to operate in a free form operation. It is also the same as needle down presser up to move material to a different direction.

    3. Standard or normal position when sewing your material. This would be at the 5 0-clock position.

There are three levels of selection for the presser foot using it's lever.

    1. This position is strictly for winding the bobbin winding using the winder. It locks up the needle movement to prevent injuring a person while operating the winder.

    2. This position is needle down while presser foot is up so you can manipulate the material for direction or other intended techniques for free movement. Note: The needle is not locked and will operate regardless of presser foot position.

    3. This full operating position or Normal operation.

How do I replace the power cord on the presser foot to a pfaff sewing machine model 2144?

I highly recommend taking it to a sewing machine repairer. That way you get it repaired safely and have a warranty on the work

How do I change a pfaff 1222 presser bar lifter? I ordered a replacement part, but now I don't know how to remove it.

If you are lucky, your part will come with instructions. Each machine is a bit different but basically you have to get into the needle bar/presser foot bar area. If you are Lucky you can get to the lever assembly without having to take out a bunch of bars. But I've only ever seen that once on an industrial machine. So you take out the presser foot bar... to get to the lever. Use caution. You want to be sure you know where and how the parts fit in there. Take your time... take pics or make notes.

Good luck

My Pfaf 1222 made a rattling noise, but was sewing. Now it jams with thread after two revolutions, need to hand turn the wheel to get it to turn those 2 turns. I broke one needle. I bent another. When I...

Check the manual for maintenance infromation.

Noise can be from lint in the bobbin area.

After cleaning, re-thread the machine with the presser foot up to see the combination of cleaning and "presser foot up" threading helps.

Fabric does not move forward

Either the presser foot does not have enough pressure on it or it is not lowering all the way to the fabric.
Remove the fabric.lower the presser foot.If the presser foot has no or little pressure look for the pressure regulator on top the machine or on the left side and see if you can make it tighter. Not all machines have this.Look to see if there is space between the foot and the teeth when you turn the handwheel. If there is space then the machine needs an adjustment.

Pfaff 1222 Bobbin holder stuck with thread

With power off, take the needle out and the presser foot. Remove the two flathead screws that secure the needle plate from the machine and remove the plate. You'll have a top view of the bobbin housing and see the thread that's stuck to it.

Pfaff 1222 and pfaff 1229

Have a certified repairman look at the power board in the machine. The power supply circuits are broken on the board itself. Can be repaired with wire and solder. How do I know? Just fixed my wifes 1229 that had the same problem.

P.S. New boards are NOT available from PFAFF or anyone else
