Question about GE Profile Prodigy DPSR513GA Dryer

1 Answer

GE Profile Prodigy Electric Dryer start knob turns too far

Normally, you only have to turn the start knob about a 1/4" to the line that says start and the dryer comes on. Now, you have to turn the knob about 1/2" past the start line before it comes on.
It does come on, so not a critical problem right now, however, I am thinking it will probably stop working soon, so I want to get a jump start on potential problems and fixes. Thank you for the input.

GE dryer won't start up - sounds like the drum is stuck.

unplug it,open the door and look up.you'll see two screws, take them out and remove the top panel, then look around three or four inches down from the top and removetwo more screws, one on each side, this is harder than most dryers to work on,not much room to reach under the drum to remove and reinstall the belt, there's also one more screw down on the right hand side below the drum that has to come out also, just remember how you took it apart,if you start it and hear a loud humming sound that's the motor, hope this helps you

The dryer makes a loud squealing noise when running most of the time. Think it is a belt or bearing but cannot figure how to get inside. Top has 2 screws that cannot be reached with standard straignt screw...

Normally you would remove the front of the dryer, then it makes for easy acess of the drum and rollers..
The noise is probably your rollers, either needs lube or replacement

Dryer will not start

I had the same problem and this is how I fixed it ,,, i did a comfortor ,very heavy when wet .....next day i tried to do a new load ...when I turned start button all i got was a hum... I removed screws just inside door at top of lip this releases top of dryer,,,, exposing drum i rotated drum clockwise to check condition of belt ....looked good ....mine is 7 yrs old ...to soon to be motor problem ....so while turning drum i held start button on and finally motor kicked in and this solved my problem...you might be able to accomplish this without taking of panel ..though you wont be able to see belt ....by turning the drum from inside dryer while someone else turns on start button

Spin and Agitate problem on GE Profile Prodigy WPSE4200A

This machine uses an electric water pump. I would check to motor. Remove the front panel and operate the machine to see if the motor is working. Check this by listening to the motor and watching the belt. If you hear the motor but the belt does'nt move then there may be a problem with the pulley or motor clutch assy.

As far as not draining or pumping water ? Check the wiring from the pump to the control panel. If these wires are alright then i suspect the pump.

GE Prodigy gas dryer will not start

The buzz you are hearing is most likely be caused by the motor. The motor may be stuck from a restriction or it may be faulty.

Shutting off before cycle end ? Check the vent line. It may be partially clogged.

Won't run at all ? Something may still be wrong with the wiring. Check the breakers and make sure you have 220V at the recepticle.

GE Profile Washer

1) Most GE appliances have service manuals. By the manual because it will save you the repair services for the life of the machine. 2) I am not familiar with the GE Profile, so I don't know if it has dial knobs, or control panels. Any way, your problems seem like the timer unit is the problem. If it has dial knobs, the timer costs about US$100 - $150. The control panel circuit probably costs that much. You can buy the service manual and parts from Sears or parts services
