Unless I hold the power cord in a certain position which is not always possible I cannot get anything on the screen. I know there's a loose connection but cannot figure out how to solve the problem.

The following advice pertains to the following magellan gps systems.

Magellan 800, 860, 2000, 2200t, 2500, 3000, 3050, 3100, 3140, 4000, 4040, 4050, 5310 and 6000t

i fix these and many other magellan gps daily so when considering my advice , please understand i do not google my solutions.

assuming your car charger is working (the little green light is on) and your magellan still wont start up after holding the power button while its plugged in for up to ten seconds and still does not start..read below

this is actually a very common problem with these magellan power ports...they are poor quality from the factory and always and i mean always fail..the new ports that you find on ebay are 100% better then the factory port.

if your able to replace that power port yourself, you can get one HERE, if not, ask the fellow that sells them for help.

due to some dubious "experts" on fixya, im not permitted to help you directly, but please follow the link above to get further help.

let me know if you need more help or info

My miele shuts off and/or will not start unless i wiggle the cord and get lucky. what can i do at home? i have no money to bring it to a service center.

If you think you're going to get to me that way ... you're right!
Soft-touch is my middle name. :-)

I can think of a few possibilities.
- The AC outlet where you plug the vacuum may be faulty. - Not uncommon.
- The plug on the power cord may be either loose or the blades may be corroded. - Most likely.
- The power cord may have a break in it. - Probable.

Let's eliminate the possibilities.
1. Plug something else in the AC outlet and see if shaking the cord does anything.
Is the appliance on regardless you shaking the cord?

2. With your vac power cord fully extended plug it in.
Step on the cord about half way, and shake the section between your foot and the vacuum.
Anything? Probably not.

3. Now shake the section between your foot and the AC outlet.
Anything? Probably yes.

I suspect the problem is in, or very near, the plug itself. The new molded plugs tend to go like that.
Take hold of the cable about a foot from the plug and gently move it pushing lightly towards the wall. The vac will likely come on.

If that's the case, all you need is a replacement plug that's in good shape, and a good samaritan-ess to replace it for you. Unless of course you're the handy type.

If it is a three prong plug, make sure to use the same type.

Acer Aspire 5100

Sounds like the power jack is loose if you have to hold it in a certain position. As for the screen your inverter might be shot. Try connecting an external monitor to your laptop and see if you get a display.

Won't charge

The plug in terminal that is soldered to a board inside the laptop has a loose solder connection. This procedure require opening the laptop and some soldering iron, and some solder. If you are not confident in doing this don't try it cuz you can mess up your laptop forever.

Power won't come on

You have a short in the cord. If you knew where the short was, you could possibly repair it. However, I would strongly suggest buying a new iron. An iron is an appliance that can burn your house down even when it's in GOOD working order. You should be able to buy a decent iron for around $30, and I would say the peace of mind alone would be worth it. Hope this helps,
Chad

Jack is loose where charger plugs in

This same thing is happening with my acer laptop. I sent it to the company about 3 months ago, and it happened again. I really need my laptop and cant take a month without it. I advise sending it in to be fixed to your laptop company.
Good luck (:
