PSP will not boot after firmware update failed

I just purchased MLB 2k8 and was prompted to update to firmware ver 3.80. The upgrade hung at 10% so I was forced to attempt to reboot after about an hour of it hanging at the 10% mark. Now the device will not boot up. When I connect a charger the light turns orange. When I try to power it on w/out the charger the light turns green for about 20 seconds and then shuts off. The system is only 6 months old, but I can not find the receipt for warranty. Is the OS completely busted? Is there anyway I can reload the OS myself?
thanks!

How to Update PSP to Firmware Ver 6.20

It's easy to update/upgrade the Playstation Portable (PSP) 3000 system software to firmware version 6.20. There are two ways to do a PSP 6.20update - regular file download and network update. We did an update on our pink PSP 3000 using the network update procedure since our place has wifi.
Why did we choose network update in updating our PSP firmware to ver 6.20? It's much simpler. Here is a quick tutorial on how to carry out PSP 6.20 update using Network Update (Method 1):
  1. Go to Network Settings to configure your PSP WLAN by setting up an access point.
  2. Under Network Settings, it would be best to choose Automatic to simplify the process. Your PSP console will search for any wireless network available nearby.
  3. To Update System Software to the latest 6.20 firmware version, Go to Network Update. Be sure your battery is full because the update will fail if you turn off you PSP console or if the unit shuts down due to lack of battery power.
Method 2: Download File To Update PSP 6.20 Firmware Using a PC. If you prefer to update your console using the download method, here are the simple steps in doing this:

We have just purchased a psp 3000 we are setting up and have put a game in and got to a screen asking us if we want to update ver 5.03 we do not know what to do can you help?

This is a firmware update offered by sony to add things to your system. This is totally up to you. Sony usually offers firmware upgrades to fix the system to not allow you to hack your PsP. Wether or not you upgrade will not effect the playabiliy of the system. Like I said it is totally up to you if you want to upgrade you can always update it at a later time ... hope this helps

psp firmware is corrupted, you be need to continue thats update..
1. update via UMD, the umd that are use must have same firmware version or higher (5.03). check it in other psp. make sure you have a fully battery, then turn on psp.

2. update using sony media go, it a pc client for sony device.. connect psp to pc via usb cable, you will need a internet connection on pc. and it will update to the latest version - 5.51.

Psp failed to update mlb 09 and now the screen is froze.

take off the battery and try again. If this doesn't help then the copy of the mlb game is defective.

Or you can just update your PSP through your computer (if you have internet)

PSP update ver 4.05

I assuming it's an OFW psp. The other way to update is through sony's website. You will d/l the upgraded firmware to your computer then to your psp via usb. The directions they give is pertty much self explanitory. Follow every direction to the letter. But you don't have to d/l 4.05 you can go up to there newest firmware they have now. Anymore problems please feel free to ask.

Cant upgrade psp

Here's what you can do:

1. Connect your PSP to your PC.
2. Check if the proper folders are on it's Memory Stick. There is
a folder called PSP which had the following folders
underneath.

GAME
PICTURE
VIDEO
SYSTEM

3. The folder you need is GAME. Go in there and create a subfolder called UPDATE.

4. Go to www.playstation.com

5. Look for your local site.

6. Look in the PSP section for firmware updates. Here's the link for the most recent firmware update for the USA.
[PSP Firmware 3.80]

* If you need other regional firmware you'll need to look for it yourself or tell me where you from.

7. Download the file in the above link to a convenient place such as your desktop. Then copy it to the recently created UPDATE folder.

8. Safely disconnect your PSP.

9. Start up your PSP and go to the Game section of it, select Memory Stick. You should now see the file.

10. Open the file by pressing X. The update procedure starts. Be sure to follow the on screen instructions.

If you want to read these steps over again, click this link:
[Updating PSP via PC]

Warning: do not use firmware other then placed on Sony PlayStation's official site. For it might damage your system and it will never boot again. Also make sure the battery is fully charged (a charge of 50% will not do, the update utilty won't allow the update). Since it can take an few minutes you best connect it to it's power supply.

NEVER interupt an update by shutting your unit down, removing battery, removing stick, removing power. The damage done is not covered by Sony's warranty.

About the issue for the connection with your PS3 unit. It's true, you need one of the most recent firmwares.

I hope this helped you out, please rate my solution.

Greetings,

DarkNeogen
