I don't know a good setting on a robertshaw 9420 thermostat, for really cold, and fast air condition.

Well Brian, an air conditioner creates the same temperature drop across the evaporator at any thermostat setpoint, so there is no setting that will get it really cold really fast. If your return air is 88 degrees (in a hot house where the system has been off) the supply air temp is going to be near 68 degrees..... as the a/c runs, the air changes within the structure cause a reduction in the average return air temperature and slowly drops the return to 87, then 86 then 85 etc, etc and the corresponding supply air temp continues to drop from 68 to 67 to 66 to 65 etc etc. Eventually the supply air temp after the appropriate 'air changes' within the structure will drop to 55 degrees and possibly even lower to satisfy the average room temp at 75, 74, 73 etc. to a point.

There are SOME newer a/cs that have two speed compressors that may effect the supply air temperature drop under differing load conditions, but thats a different ball of wax.

So, if you want it cold quickly you are out of luck, just leave the t-stat set at 70 degrees and pay the electric bill when it comes in.....

My a/c is blowing warm air. its a new house; moved in just a month ago. my grandmother constantly changes the settings back to 80...could this have busted my a/c?

Dear Sir:
1) Could be a reason just moving the thermostat.

2) You need to check the unit for condenser + evaporator very well from a Tech. Since the freon is not good signal for a good operation , the reason is may be some Leakes in the pipes.

sincerely. God bless you

TH8110U1003 Touch screen thermostats. My problem is I don't have a manual to show me how to operate it. But the big problem I'm dealing with now is when I set a temp. say I set it for 75 and the house...

If your program that you have programed into the stat is set to 73 it will go back to that setting if the stat is in the program mode....... Push the HOLD button on the stat and keep pushing it till it say permanent HOLD right above the buttons on the bottom and then you can set your temp to what you want. Here is a download link for the manual from Honeywell..

Can not get temp below 77

Is the thermostat set up for automatic change over from heat to cool? If so, the heat is probably set for 75, you will need to lower the heat setting in order to Lower the cooling. the stat won't let these settings with in 2 degrees of each other so the heating and cooling don't fight each other.

simply push cancel. That clears the hold feature.

Pushing hold once gets - permanent hold.
Pushing hold twice gets - days of permanent hold. So you can set it if you are going away on a temp and at the end of the days it goes back to normal operation.

call them back something is wrong if it is that new it is likely under charged. how big is your house square feet and what part of the country down south 400 square feet per ton if your house is more than 1250 square feet the unit is under sized since it is new did some body do a load calculation on the house if ya bought from a reputable dealer and you are getting no help call the manufacture. or the better business in your area good luck. make sure the system switch is in the cool position, then press run program button and allow a couple of minutes for system to cycle on, if it doesn't come on press the button for lowering the set point, set it to 72 degrees and then press the hold temperature key.

normally, if you have a hold option, there should be a hold button which when you press again should un hold the setting. have you tried pressing the run button. this would eliminate all hold function and just run the programmed temperatures.
