Hi,

I think you must have damaged some other component in your laptop.

There isn't much else we can do with our support system there at FixYa given the nature of your broken laptop, of which the screen is one element.

Use this link to ultimately connect wtih a tech at HP.com and see what they can offer you in the way of support.

Its too bad this happened to you but accidents happen. A new screen (an expensive part) will not fix your laptop, as the external monitor, which normally is automatically sensed by the laptop and 'mirrors' you laptops screen automatically, and in the last resort, you can try the key combos on the keyboard. Since, neither of these is working for you contact HP using the link above to begin resolving your problem.

About all we can tell you here is that your laptop is dead.

Sorry we can't fix your problem, but we go way beyond 'Trying', and I would hope you're re rating the solution would reflect that. Still, the choice is yours. Sorry, again for the bad news

Are you sure that it is Fn / F4? Most Laptops use the Fn / F8 key to toggle the external RGB Video

YOu may want to check the BIOS to see if there are also settings for the Extern RGB connection.

When you say the Laptop Screen is broken, is it possible that it is the Video Card in the Laptop that is broken?

My screen on my laptop is broken. Can i plug a monitor into my laptop?

1) connect your external monitor to the laptop and then switch the monitor on
2) boot up the laptop
3) after it has successfully booted, you need to identify which function key toggles the external monitor on/off
4) you should be able to do this by holding down the Fn key and trying each of the F keys in turn, waiting a few seconds after pressing each one
5) begin by holding down "Fn" + "F3", "Fn" + "F4", "Fn" + "F5" etc.

If this doesn't work, it may be worth examining all the keys and look for a small monitor symbol on one of the keys. If you find this symbol, hold down the Fn key and then hit the corresponding key with the monitor symbol.

I want to connect my laptop to my lg tv. i have the RGB cable but it is showing no signal on the tv, why?

You need to tell your laptop to send the video signal to your rgb output interface by using your function keys. Usually Fn+F2 or F8.

My MX6453 won't turn on

You may have turned off the LCD screen. After you turn the computer on, hit Fn+F4 keys and then wait a moment. Then try it again. The F4 key cycles the video output through three settings: from LCD only, to external monitor only, to LCD + external video. You could also try connecting the video output on the back of the computer to a different monitor to see if it's a screen problem on the laptop of a broken video card.

The F4 key has the blue icons for a little TV screens. The Fn key is in the lower left corner.

About two weeks ago I started getting a "Catalyst Control Center" error about the video driver for my MX6453, so I assume there was some sort of update that was pushed through Microsoft or from ATI that changed display settings or drivers. Your computer may have had an extreme reaction to the software update if you accepted it. I did not accept the update and my computer works fine.

You can also try to boot in safe mode which should prevent the advanced drivers from installing. Basically you hit F8 as it's powering up. See here for more info: http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml
