My scanner stopped working so we used the CD to uninstall and reinstall. We also uninstalled from add/remove programs with the CD to make sure it was fully gone. It says that it installed sucessfully but when going to printers/faxes the printer is not listed. HP director won't open either. Our computer was built for us but I know it runs on Windows and origionally had vista but we installed Windows XP as to not deal with Vista since it sucks. Does anyone have suggestions?

run hp print diagnostic utility
instructions on how to run it are included in that link.
if it does not fix your problem I strongly suggest you uninstall the hp printer software from your computer and reinstall it.if you still have the cd installer, insert it in the cd drive and select uninstall.if you do not have the disk uninstall it using add/remove (win xp) features or programs and features (for vista or win 7).make sure to uninstall all hp programs associated with your officejet 6210 (driver series,hp customer participation program, imaging device functions, shop for hp supplies,hp yahoo toolbar,hp image zone.hp memories disc,hp update,hp smart web printing,hp photosmart essentials).
NOTE:uninstall programs enumerated above only when you have that printer installed on your pc because uninstalling them may affect the functionalities of other printers installed on your computer.

OR If you dont have the disk, you need to manually uninstall the Software ( Disconnect the USB cord before uninstalling )
Click START - Open Control panel - Add/remove Programs ( XP ) / Or Programs and FEatures ( Vista/Win 7 ) you will find list of HP Programs installed..
Choose one by one and uninstall these programs 1. HP Customer participation program 2. HP Imaging Device and software 3. Software and drivers for Photosmart 3200 4. HP Solution Center or HP Director 5. HP Image Zone ( or Image Zone Express / HP Photosmart Essential ) 6. HP Update 7. Uninstall the driver, remove any trace of the install from the system (as much as is possible). Whent his gets messed up it's really hard to get working on that machine again under XP. Aquire the printer through add printer and detect not the software on the CD, install the driver
using the inf file on the Cd. Now reinstall the printer software using USB or serial as an option, when prompted select custom install and no driver. If you have it setup on another machine this also works, but acquire the printer through network neighborhood instead of using add/remove programs.
