Hey, ok so the safe mode locks up, have you tried disablein the automatic restart on system failure?

so if you start up with the xp setup disk and enter repair console with the r key, when do you get the error message? I haven't seen that one before.

go into safe mode , I think you hit either F5 or F8 during start up. You want safe mode with networking perhaps. From safe mode attempt a recovery to an earlier date when your machine was working.
GOOD LUCK

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \windows\system32\config\system

(1)When you power up the computer press F8 key then enter in safe mode.
Then if you are able to enter in safe mode then uninstall driver or software which you installed recently and face this error.
(2)If you are not able to enter in safe mode Then you need to fix error on hard drive. For that you need windows disk or recovery disk.
Boot your computer with that disk
For that when you power up the computer press F1 or F2 "del" key to enter in bios.
Then go to boot menu and set first boot device as your cd or dvd rom.
Then save settings and exit bios.
Insert windows disk in cd /dvd rom.
Then it boot with that disk. Then you get this message "Press any key to boot from cd.."
Then press any key.
Then follow the procedure then enter in recovery console mode then type in prompt "chkdsk /r"
Then type "y"
Then it fix error on hard drive.
Then check if again you are not able to enter in windows then boot again and this time choose "R" option for repair previous windows " then it repairs old windows then it loads again old windows.

Hi, please restart your computer and tap the F8 key as soon as you see something on the screen. You should get the advanced boot menu. Select Safe Mode from the list.

If you are unable to boot into safe mode, let me know the error message which you get when you restart your computer.

Error says file: systemroot\system32\config\system

Can you boot into Safe Mode? Restart the computer and hit the F8 key continually until you get to the Advanced Boot options and choose Safe Mode. Here you can run System Restore. If you can't, then boot off of the Windows XP CD and get to the Recovery Console. Here you would type in chkdsk /f/r and hit enter. The Check Disk utility will try and fix any errors in the file system.

Will not boot, error message

Hello

Im sorry to hear about your luck. Basically this error message is letting you know that one of your important windows system files is corrupt or missing.

Problem is every solution requires you to use a cd. Does the PC have USB drives ?

An error to my microsoft

Try putting the computer into safe mode.

To do this shut the computer down.

As the computer gets ready to start booting up, hold down on the F8 key.

At the menu, move the arrow keys on your keyboard to safe mode and press enter.

Once Windows finishes booting up in safe mode, restart the computer in normal mode.

This can repair the message.
