There is a switched speakon plug in there (bi-amp socket).
The switch connection can go intermittent. Take the back panel of and solder links from +1 to 1+n, 1- to 1-n, 2+ to 2+n and 2- to 2-n. That often fixes it, but you lose the bi-amp capability (which hardly anyone uses)

Hi karaokedon

Sounds like the bass driver is intermittent.
First, I think you need to take the driver out, and with it still connected, give the connecting cables and wriggle and the crossover circuit assly and light tap with the handle of a screw driver. Just need to check this to be sure the driver is faulty. Check the driver itself with the low ohms range of a multi meter

If it turns out the driver is the problem, you are lucky, it is a 12 inch Black Widow 1254 field replaceable type. You virtually just unbolt the magnet off the basket and replace the entire basket assembly(speaker cone and cast frame) This can be done easily yourself, and will fix the problem. Go here for a guide on how to

And of course, I never asked you if it wa s powered box, is so then it may be the LF amp section malfunctioning. You can download a circuit from here

I have a Peavey Impulse 200 speaker. The 12" speaker stopped working, but it and the circuit board look fine. What do I check now?

Disconnect the leads from the 12". Put a voltmeter across the speaker terminals and check for continuity. If it reads open, the speaker is dead.

Peavey sp2xt speakers horn makes no sound when plugged into normal input. Horn works fine when plugged into the high side of the crossover.

High side speaker input jack defective, as they are switch also and if you plug the wire from the amp in full range and no hf sound but connecting directly to the bi-amp hi does, then your female 1/4 plug at crossover is defective for sure.

Horns don't work on sp2 speakers

I've got Peavey SP2's and SP4XT's and they have one common problem. The 22XT Driver needs replacing from time to time. It could be a power spike, overdriving from amp, over heating or dirt/water in horn. The driver is very easy to replace and costs about $40.00. Remove the horn, carefully lift the horn and disconnect black and red wires. Remember red is always +. Remove driver from horn with socket wrench or socket screwdriver, clean the circular gap on horn with masking tape to remove dirt, hand tighten driver screws, connect red and black wires, carefully set horn back in SP2 enclosure and slowly bring up the power. Also be sure to be very careful when setting the new driver/ coil in the horn. You don't want to damage the coils on the new driver at all!

I have a set of peavey scorpion sp5xt's one works fine but if i plug into the other one ,in full range, only the horn works,

Horn and speaker combo cabinets have an electronic component called a "crossover". The horn and speaker both work off different electrical signal frequencies. If you can take off the back, or get inside by pulling the speaker, check for a small circuit board mounted inside the box or on the speaker or horn. Check for a broken wire or loose connection of the crimp connectors.

A common problem with speakers, often the cone, or paper part of the speaker will come un-glued or separated from the magnet "voice coil". This happens when played too loud, when it's commected to the wrong impedance, or if the signal was shorted and "overdriven" (usually sounds like an awful buzz that's really loud).

Always make sure your output impedance matches the impedance of the speaker. Most auto stereos are 4 Ohms. Older home stereos are typically 8 Ohms. Musical PA gear varies between 4, 8, and 16 Ohms. Peavey gear is typicall 4 Ohms, but some older models are different. The Ohm rating is the amount of the resistance in the circuit. If your speaker is 4 Ohms and you plug it into an 8 Ohm circuit, you can destroy the speaker and sometimes the crossover circuit board.

Good Luck.

Peavey KB 300

Yes a horn can get blown. This should be 2 pieces, the horn itself and a circular driver on the rear. The driver itself will have what is called a diaphragm that can be removed and replaced. That is the part you want. Open up the speaker and get the part number off of the back of the horn and order the diaphragm from Peavey.

Peavey impulse 1015 horn cuts in and out

If the horn cuts out after some usage ...then its probably the limiter lamp that is gone .... the limiter lamp is switched into circuit once the " polyswitch " gets hot .... so at first the horn works ...then when the limiter lamp is switched in ...nothing !
its just a standard 12volt car tail light lamp ...let me know if this helps

Hi, I need to replace the baskets on my peavey impulse 200 speakers. The baskets currently in them are 1268MR BW... (12 inch black widow) I am wondering if I can use differant baskets, due to the fact I'm...

Hi dieselbob25

Whats happening to the 1268? Oh and I couldnt find that model in the standard range available to the public at the peavey sites I checked here and Peavey

They may be a special edition for the Impulse boxes. Can you tell me what is happening to the speakers? Are they burning voice coils or what. May indicate another area of concern that is making them fail.
