Player has sound of the movie but the screen is just white no picture

There is a small button on top when the screen closes it turns off the display. While the movie is playing press the small button with a small pointing object and see if the display shows something on the screen for a few second and then off (you can sometime see the movie playing but very dim). then there is a problem with the switch not switching the display back to normal. Hope this helps...

Magnavox portable dvd mdp1810a - no picture

I have this player. It's sensitive to power fluctuations. If the power isn't steady, the picture goes out. You don't need to shut the lid, just quickly press the tiny plastic pin near the hinge under the screen. It does the same thing as closing and opening the lid would do. Not sure this will solve it, but I found that to help. By the way, I broke the car charger for mine and am looking to buy one. If you ditch your player, let me know.

I have a Tru tech portable dvd player model no. 12701C, and i cant get the lid to close or the dvd player to read the disk i believe because it turns on and just says "Open" on the screen...the dvd inside...

Unfortunately, if the lid will not close properly, there is nothing you can do to fix that. Furthermore, if while holding the lid down the unit still shows "open" on the screen, the unit definitely needs to be repaired or exchanged. If you're in warranty, contact the manufacturer or the extended warranty company for the procedure you'll need to follow.

If you feel this solution doesn't deserve a good rating, please let me know why so that I may better assist you. If there is anything more I can do to help, I will!

Turning on

I second quavuama. I had the same symptoms after my four-year-old "broke" it. He actually figured it out and suggested the fix. He said "Daddy, the little button is stuck..." OK, yeah right, I said. But he pointed to the small auto shut-off button just above the source and setup buttons. When the lid closes the button is pushed down and off goes the picture. Well little four-year-old fingers was fingering the button and it got stuck in the down position. I used a sharp tip to work it back to the "sprung" position. Picture now comes on.

My friend give me hers in frustration for the same problem. Turned out to be that little tiny switch under the lid. Inside, just to the right of th play button, is asmall black needle-looking thing sticking up. It's protected by a little plastic fence. This whole thing is less about 5 mm across. To test it, open the lid, then use a pencil or something to hold down the switch ALL THE WAY, then see if the unit springs to life. If so, then look at the bottom of the lid and find the little bump that presses down on the switch. Find some way to build that up a little bit, maybe a few layers of fingernail polish, or a small felt sticker, or some glue. Once it starts pushing that switch down a little further, the unit will work OK. I ended up using a teeny tiny little screw like the kind that mounts a hard drive in a PC, but I had to drill out a hole for it first. I wouldn't do it that way again. Now if that fixes your problem, let me know exactly what that wide/normal switch does! I can't tell if it actuall keep the correct aspect ratio or if it just stretches the picture. Drop me a line at spa_dump@wowway.com and let me know. Hope that helps you out!
