My PS2 plays every discs except blue discs

I only get disc read errors on blue discs and really don't want to tear it apart to fix it. Is there anything else I can do to remedy this problem.

I had the same problem and i fixed it, you just have to get some scotch tape, and put 3 or 4 layers of the tape around the whole on the title side of the disc, DO NOT PUT THE TAPE ON THE BLUE SIDE. This works because the blue cd alone is too thin for the ps2 to spin. Trust me, it won't hurt your disk and it has worked for me.

Take a lens cleaner disk, and then run it three times. The ps2 will work or if it doesn't. Its time to upgrade to slimline.

Reads disc error on all discs execept there is one blue disc it will play ,it will not read movies

It sounds like the laser lense is either dirty or out of alignment. Though the alignment issue was mostly done away with the later model PS2s. If you know anyone that has ever taken apart a PS2 to fix theirs you may want to talk to them about teaching you how, that or consult one of many guides available on the net to take yours apart to see if the lens needs adjusted. This does void any warranty you have on the console and should only be used as an absolute last resort.

My PS2 is not loading Grand Turirsmo 4!

If your PS2 works fine with most of the games and won’t play a few..Then you should try this trick to play them too on your PS2:
  1. Turn on your PS2 without inserting any disc.
  2. Menu screen will appear like:6e4cb56.jpg
  3. Press the (triangle) Button to enter Version Information Menu that looks like9d90dc8.jpg
  4. Highlight the Play Station Driver as above and again press (triangle).
  5. New screen will appear likedd8fb1a.jpg
  6. Highlight the Disc Speed as above and press X button,to enter Disc Speed Menu
  7. And set it from Standard to "Fast".
  8. After you set Disc Speed to Fast, Press and Hold Reset Button to turn off your console.
  9. Then again Press and Hold Reset Button till the Blue Light turns on.
  10. Remove the Reset Button and Press it again.
Be patient and wait till the game loads itself. If your lens is in good condition then it will play game in first go else try again till it PLAY your game. If still your Grand Turismo 4 DVD wont work then you must clean your PS2 lens.Watch following video to learn about cleaning lens:

Will not read blue discs no problem with clear(silver) ones tho.

1. Apparently, blue PS2 discs are lighter than silver ones, so they tend to move around more when the PS2 is reading them. To fix this, you can put duct tape on the top of the disc. This will make it heavier, so it won't move around too much and it should make reading the disc easier for your poor PS2. People have told me that this indeed works (but not always). Don't go overboard with the tape though. Attempt at your own risk. 2. If the problems occurs when the PS2 is horizontal, try putting it into its vertical position. Or try putting it horizontal if it is vertical. 3. Use a can of compressed air to clean dust out of the system. 4. Make sure your game discs are not the problem. Keep them as clean as possible. Even small scratches can cause problems. 5. Open up your PS2 and clean it out or try adjusting the lens. Very risky and voids your warranty. 6. Try using a DVD lens cleaner (for problems reading silver discs) or a CD lens cleaner (for blue disc problems). 7. Send your system to Sony for repairs. Due to a lawsuit, Sony may have to repair your PS2 for free even if there is no warranty. Contact Sony for details. That is all the advice I can give. If the len(s) cleaners or compressed air don't work, then you are probably just out of luck. There is no magic way to suddenly get your PS2 working again without professional repair.

The trick to getting the discs to play on any PS@ (old or new) when they are black or blue is to put a piece of tape lengthwise and width wise around the hole in the disc on the topside (picture-side) of the disc. What this does is add weight to the disc and thus allows the PS2 to read it more accurately. I had bought many older titles not too long ago and was disappointed when they didn't work. Then I spoke with a Japanese expert online and he suggested using scotch tape around the hole in the disc and it worked instantly. Don't be fooled into buying a new PS2, just a roll of scotch tape. You'll only need four one inch strips.

Thank you for using FixYa - a FixYa rating is appreciated!!

Wont read discs

Downloadable games are not playable on PS2. If you're trying to play pirated games that you've downloaded from the Internet you're going to need to have your PS2 hardware modded to play DVD-Rs, which is expensive, dangerous, and illegal.

Read disc error

You said the model is 77001?? is that the slim type ps2?? if it is try this troubleshooting step

if the console is lying down flat where the disc lid is at the right side, try applying pressure on the lower right corner of the lid, sometimes the lid's safety button gets worn out and it will give you disc read error if this solves the problem then the button really is busted, if you have technical background you try and change the button

Play station 2 won't read silver disc only reads blue disc

Hi Elvis,

The Blue back disc is CD format. The DVD laser circuit is giving you trouble. You can adjust the DVD pot some on the back of the Laser. Turn it about 3 degrees clockwise. Then put it the laser back in. Test the PS2 with no cover on, and use the white round disc from the laser drive cover to clamp a disc onto the spindle. Test DVD and PS2 Games that do not have Blue back.

Disc reading error

Open the Case.
Clean the lens with Q-tip and Alcohol. This is only if you have the SCPH-30000 through 5000X models. If you have the Slim Ps2 do not use Alcohol on the lens. Use Glass cleaner instead.
