SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

I try to take a picture and this comes on the screen write protect.

This is a common problem with SD & SDHC type memory cards - and is easily fixed.

Remove the card from the camera and inspect the edge for a sliding tab and lock indicator.
690144df-2144-46c7-9b90-dd85c207a09b.jpgYou can see the tab & lock indicator on the left side edge in the picture of the front of the card above. Slide the tab UP - away from the lock position - as shown in the picture. The card is now able to be written. When the tab is in the lock position, the card may only be read.

Carefully reinsert the card into the camera - taking effort to see that the tab is not bumped / moved back into the lock position. You should be able to take pictures and have them saved to the card - without the locked message from this point on.

I hope this helps & good luck!

How do i turn off write protect

There is a small sliding tab on the edge of the SD card. Slide it to the unlocked position. It usually says "LOCK >" so push the tab the opposite direction of the arrow.

My sd card is locked how do I unlock it to remove the pictures Thanks

Is it new?Usually an SD card comes in the locked position.Remove the card from the camera. There should be a metal tab which slides back and forth.Move it to the other end from the current position. That should be unlock mode.Turn on the camera to check.I don't remember if my LCD said it there or when I took a picture but you will kow immediately either way.Good luck! Ihave bought A new memory card for my camera but it is saying card protected how do I correct this

You didn't say what make and model camera you have, so I'll assume it uses SD and/or SDHC cards.

SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

My camera has placed a Protected card ! on my camera without my approval

No! I do not think your camera has placed a Protected card ! on my camera without my approval. Pull out your memory card and look for a very small "latch" at one of its sides. Push it the other way and try to access it again. This "latch" is the "lock/protection."

When i put the memory card in the camera, it comes accross the screen that the card is locked. How do i unlock it and how did i lock it in the first place?

Hi,

To remove the write protect lock, take the memory card out of the camera, face the card towards you, look for a small white tab on the left hand side of the card, to unlock it push the tab up to unlock it, it will be at the side of the card like this 59a6de4.jpg .

If the lock is in the off position then the card maybe faulty.

Regards.

I tried taking pictures and a message comes up on the screen "write protect". What is wrong?

That usually means the slide switch on the side of the card is in the locked position.

Protected card pops up and I cant take any pics?

Remove the card from the camera.  There is a small slide tab on the card which shows a picture of a lock.  Move the slide tab to the unlock position.  If this doesn't fix it, replace the card.
