I bought a Scrabble game and have installed it but when I try to play it says "Mplayer can only be used on Windows95". I have Windows Vista. How can I use it on this version of Windows?

It hasn't started yet but is asking if I want to install Microsoft Internet Explorer. I did that and am going to restart my computer and see if that works.

You can try to right click on the icon, go into the compatibility tab, and select windows 95/98 compatibility mode. But don't hold your breath. Vista is totally different than any of the previous windows versions before it and it just may not be compatible.

Usually i play Worldwide Scrabble on my Facebook. Now it wont allow me to download. The little circlejust keeps going round and teh screen "twitches". What can I do to start playing...

This could be an issue with your flash player on the system. Flash player usually makes you run your games online, even on facebook. You can get the newer version from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ . After the download, just restart your system and enjoy Worldwide Scrabble :)

Tip

Fixing Corrupt Registry

If your registry has gotten corrupted, and re-installing Windows95 over your existing version does not fix the problem,
there is a hidden, read-only, system file on the root of your boot drive called SYSTEM.1ST.
This is the initial system registry created when you first installed Windows95.
To use this file:

Go to your Windows directory
Un-Attrib your current SYSTEM.DAT file (attrib -r -s -h system.dat)
Copy your current SYSTEM.DAT to something like SYSTEM.BAD file (just in case)
Move to your root directory
Un-Attrib the SYSTEM.1ST file
Copy SYSTEM.1ST to \WINDOWS\SYSTEM.DAT
Re-start your system
You will need to install your 32-bit apps and any other programs or changes that modified your system registry
but you will not need to go through a new again. Your 16-bit apps should not need to be re-installed since they do
not modify the registry. You will also retain your current desktop configuration.

Follow the directions to enable Compatibility Mode in Windows 2000 and try running your application in compatibility mode for windows 95.
  1. Log on as Administrator.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type the following command, and then click OK, where %SystemRoot% is the drive and folder in which Windows is installed (eg C:Windows): regsvr32 %systemroot%apppatchslayerui.dll
  1. Log on as Administrator.
  2. Right-click the shortcut (for scrabble), and then click Properties.
  3. Click Compatibility.
  4. Click to select the Run in Compatibility Mode check box to enable Compatibility-mode support for the program.
  5. Click Windows 95 compatibility mode in the drop-down box.
  6. Click OK to save the changes.
  7. Double-click the shortcut to run the program.
Good Luck!

My windows media player won't work. It says about missing codec. I've downloaded the codec but still there is a problem.

Ok. Windows Media player is really limited on playing different formats. It is more a music store (like iTunes) than a media player. You can try an OpenSource media player named MPlayer. It plays almost ALL media format on the universe and beyond. (A bit exaggeration here). The best part is FREE.You can download MPlayer from here.

Did you check the system requirements? Often games designed to "work" on windows/windows95/windows98 .. don't work well if at all on windows2000/xp/vista.

I have windows vista installed on my computer and i need a current indeo codec so that i can install my monopoly game on my computer. thank you

http://www.videohelp.com/tools/SUPER try using this, it may not let you convert it to a playable file, however mplayer, included in super, should let you install. Windows has stopped supporting Indeo back on XP sp1. and Ligos, who owns indeo now, hasnt been doing much for updating Indeo either.
