Question about Motorola Mobility RAZR V3
'where can i find a microphone for a razr v3 and how easy are'they to install
You can find them on E-Bay. They are not easy at all to install. You need a heat gun with a low fan setting and a nozzle to focus the hot air on the area of the mic. The solder contacts are under the microphone. I guess it would be too easy if they made the solder points directly accessible. (LOL)
Once the board is removed from the phone, it is a small rectangular component with a small hole in it. You can find it on the board by orienting the removed board and comparing where the hole by the keypad is. The hole in the keypad housing is directly over where the microphone is on the board.
You have to locally heat the board around the mic slowly with low air pressure until it gets hot enough for the mic to desolder. While heating it, use a pair of tweezers to gently lift the microphone. When it is hot enough to desolder, it will lift right off. Be very careful when removing because neighboring components will also have the solder softened and can move if you even brush them.
After the mic is removed, clean the contact surface. Set the mic in place and then hold with light pressure with a small flat tip screw driver. Again, heat the area around the mic. Do not heat the mic directly because it will burn the microfilament that picks up the vibrations before the solder breaks down to fasten it to the board. If you have to add a little solder, be careful to not add too much. When the heat is to a point that the solder melts, the mic will sit flat to the board. If there is too much solder on the 4 contact points, it will mush out and potentially create a short.
FYI... V3 mic replacement is very high level.
