Dell latitude runs but does not boot up

Remove battery + power cord from AC adapter. Wait 10 minutes. Plug in only the power cord. Power-on the laptop.

If laptop starts correctly, plug in battery while it is up using the adapter. Leave on for battery to recharge.

My mouse will take off to either the upper right or lower left corner, no matter if i use a external or the mouse pad on my laptom

Hi charles.

Common design flaw with this particular laptop. It picks up inteference from internal wireless card which randomly causes havoc with the onboard input controller. External sources can also rarely cause this strange behavior. The only thing iI can suggest is to tighten, but don't over-tighten all screws on the bottom of the laptop, removing battery and AC supply of course. A loose screw can cause lack of earthing which can generate inteference. Hope this is helpful to you.

I would like to disasemble my laptops hinges but dont know how

What is the Model Series number?
There is a slight difference between the ZV6000, and ZX5000/ZV5000 series, for this procedure.

I want to give you the link to the Service Manual, (Free)
It won't describe, or illustrate the entire procedure of removing the Hinges, but will help for me to guide you.

The basic procedure is to remove all electrical sources first.
AC adapter (Charger), and Battery. Work on a table.
Follow Anti-Static Precautions before you begin.

Have a multi-compartment container, for the various screws you will remove, and label each compartment for where the screws came from.
(You can use a clean egg carton in a pinch)

Open the laptop, remove the Strip Cover,

(Below the LCD screen, and above the Keyboard. There are screws to remove from the bottom, so that the Strip Cover can be removed)

The Strip Cover will be popped up, and out, and there is a procedure for this.
(Start at one end, work your way along, basically)

The Keyboard is removed next. There is a procedure so you don't break the tiny keyboard connection cable.

There is a Thermal Cover to remove.

Next are the Wireless Antenna cables, and Display cable.
There may also be a Display Ground cable.

Screw covers for the hinges are removed from the back. The hinge screws are removed next.

The above is a General, Basic, set of procedures.
Advise do not follow it.
It's just to give you a basic idea of what is entailed.

If your problem Does Not relate to the HP Pavilion ZV6000, ZX5000, or ZV5000 series of laptops, state what laptop manufacturer, and model series it is.

I need a resore disk for latitude d400. Windows XP will not load. continues to go through start up procedure.

You can try to press Ctrl key + F11 on boot-up if you have a recovery partition on the computer it will take you to the system recovery options and from their you can select dell factory image restore that will restore your computer to factory settings but you will loose all your data. If their is no recovery partition then you can call dell to Oder a recovery cd that will cost you $10 to $12.

The screen turns off

REMOVE ALL POWER FROM THE COMPUTER BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT Try this first remove the control plastic panel above the key board, reseat the lcd cable to the motherboard. If no go you may have a loose or bad inverter. Here is how to fix this,REMOVE THE BATTERY,AC CORD.On the front of the display you will see some little rubber covers these cover the screws revove the make sure you put them out of the way, remove the screws remove the bazel.Below the LCD is a little card about six inches called a inverter make sure its snug(CHECK THE WIRE PLUGED INTO IT FROM THE LCD),since you got this apart you might want to look at the rear of the lcd the back panel comes off too but you will have to remove screws as well.THAT CABLE SHOULD BE SNUG AS WELL YOU CAN USE A PIECE OF TAPE TO KEEP IT SECURE.Now thats it for the physical display.Put everything back together and try again.
Good luck

Will not power on

Reseating the RAM may resolve this issue.
Step 1 - Remove the battery
  1. Slide and hold the battery release latch to the unlock position.
  2. Use your finger to lift the battery up and out.
Step 2 - Remove the memory module
  1. Locate the memory module cover on the bottom of the notebook.
  2. Remove the screw that covers the memory module.
  3. Use your finger or a flat head screw driver to lift the inside edge of the memory module and remove it.
  4. Push both tabs outward simultaneously to release the memory module.
  5. Grasp the memory module by the edges and pull gently to remove it.
  6. After removing one module, replace the memory expansion cover and then replace the screw.
Step 3 - Replace the battery
  1. Insert the battery into the notebook.
  2. Push the battery into the base enclosure until you hear a click.
  3. Connect the AC adapter and turn on the notebook.

NOTE: If the PC will not start up and you experience another failure not covered in this article, see Related links . After the memory is reseated, connect the AC adapter and turn on the notebook.
