Where do i plug the cable into my pc? i can't find a port that fits. Canon IP1700

There is no need to use USB cable to connect MX340 to a wireless router.
If you don't want to use the printer as wireless, plug the printer cable directly into your PC USB port.

You need a cable that is called by many names- Firewire, DV, IEEE 1394, and Sony call it i.Link. Many names for the same thing, but they are mostly just one type, with a small plug for the camera end and a larger one to fit the PC. The easiest way to get the right cable is to search Amazon for "canon mv700i firewire". I found a couple right away for less than $10.

Resetter canon iP 1700 and iP1300
Step 1 : Reset Hardware

1. Turn off Canon Pixma iP1700, iP1300 Printers
2. Hold down Resume button and press Power button.
3. Keep holding down Power button and let Resume button go.
4. Press Resume button 2 times then let BOTH buttons go.
5. Green lights will flash and then stop blinking.
6. When green lights are solid, press the Resume button 4 times.
7. Press the Power button and the Canon Pixma iP1700, iP1300 Printers should turn off, if not, press the Power button once more.
8. Your Canon Pixma iP1700, iP1300 Printers should respond as normal

Step 2 : Using software resetter

1. Download Software Resetter for Canon Printers iP1300 dan iP1700 Software Resetter for Canon Pixma iP1300, iP1700
2. Ekstrak/Unrar/Unzip the Software
3. run GeneralTool.exe
4. Select USB Port where the canon ip1300 or canon ip1700 installed.
5. CLick Lock Release button
6. Select EEPROM CLEAR
7. Click Test Pattern 1 button
8. Your Canon Pixma iP1700, iP1300 Printers should respond as normal.

Resetting Ink-Waste Ov

I think you are new with the PC or Printers, if not, I am sorry to underestimate you, not actually, Well, I was just trying make you concentrate, This printer is to be connected to the PC via USB port using USB cable, here's the pic representation : The Flat terminal is to be connected to the PC and the Smaller terminal is to be connected to the Printer. Don't worry, It fits with the corresponding ports. USB port on the printer looks similar with the above shown image. You have to connect in a similar way as shown above to the PC.. Good luck...

If you do not have the disk you download software from Internet, follow instructions below,

A web page will open, follow instructions, select operative system etc., and click on download .
Chose to download the file in my documents when asked.
Afterdownloading,findthefile,doubleclick on the file, if you get introubles ,thenfollowinstructionsbelowto reset and reinstall:

• Unplug printer USB.
• Go to control panel >> installed printers in Windows and remove (delete ) any installed printer from printer list.
• Download driver from website and run the file.
  
• Follow driver installation wizard.
• Plug back printer when prompted from installation wizard.

Note some printer does not work on Vista.

you could try to reseat the card. sometimes the cards don't fit quite right and when you plug in the cable maybe it moves it enough to get a bad connection.
does it post with just the cable pluged in pluged out?
