Question about Onkyo TX-SR605 Receiver

1 Answer

My onkyo tx-sr705 produces a humming noise out off all the speakers when no audio is played I have an Onkyo TX SR705 and I'm getting that hum out of my speakers and subwoofer as well. It just started this week. I'm very frustrated with it. I've got it hooked up to a Monster HTS 1000 MKIII PowerCenter with Clean Power Stage 2. I unhooked all of the speakers and reset the receiver yesterday and started from scratch. It didn't help at all. I absolutely loved this receiver 'till now. I contacted customer support, they're having me ship the thing to one of their support centers and I could be without it for the next month. I'm pretty frustrated. The receiver has great features for the $, but who cares if it's gonna **** out on ya after 6 months? I'll probably be shipping it out this week. If anyone has any ideas in the mean time, I'm willing to try just about anything. I've got a ps3 and a direct tv receiver. I get the hum whenever the receiver gets a signal from either of those sources. I also tried hooking up an optical cable and getting the audio from the ps3 that way...still got the hum.

I have a significantly loud humming noise coming out of all 5.1 speakers connected to my Onkyo TX-SR705 receiver. I've been using the receiver for 6 months and this problem just started happening about a week ago. You can hear this hum when any input source is selected on the receiver. I disconnected all A/V connections to the receiver leaving only the speaker wires connected as well as unplugged all components from the electrical outlets to elimimante the possiblity of interferance or ground loops. The hum still occurs. The hum will stop when I go into the receiver's setup menu menu 2-1 (Speaker Settings). As soon as I exit that menu the hum comes back.

I used 5002 and it works for on/off only. This is better than nothing. You can try codes from other Onyko devices to see if you can get one that provides more functional control.

TX-SR705 60 hz. Hum

If you have a Home Theater Line conditioner on this receiver, not a power surge protector, even a "Monster" surge suppressor, your problem Is AC related. For troubleshooting; first if your AC power cord is three pronged, go to Lowes, Home Depot, etc. and get a three prong to two prong adapter. Your problem is a "Ground" issue, however it may not be from the receiver, it could be "Anything else" in your home. Even an actual outlet with a loose wire. It can be very very time consuming to "hunt down". An adapter will take the rest of the house out of the picture. Disconnect all other input sources like Cable, DVD, etc. then turn the unit back on. If you still have a humm, yes the problem is internal and needs serviced. If it stops, re-connect one item at a time until the noise re-appears and you have your culpret. If you don't have a line conditioning noise eliminating Theater surge protection unit; Get one! best few hundred bucks you could ever spend. It will protect all your electronics and could save you thousands! Panamax, Furman, Monster, are your top 3. If you still have issues, post a comment and I can help you further. Hope this helps.

How do I connect my outside speakers to play?

The onkyo should still have a speaker A/B selector in the menu.
Check on the back panel for speaker A/B.
If it has or you decide to use Zone 2 you will need to set the sound programme to "stereo" so the rears and centre do not work.
You can still use a digital source.
You should be able to display the amp's menu on the screen.
Hook up "monitor out" (Yellow) via RCA connector to one of the "A/V inputs" (yellow) on the tv, this will show you a display of the menu and will make it eaiser to navigate.

"The blue light around my volume dial does not light

Try resetting the receiver (you will lose your setup). I recently reset my receiver and the blue light returned. It's possible that the Audacity setup turns off the blue light because the volume is now being "regulated" by the equalizer.

Onkyo TX-SR705 Muting Problem

if what Dark_Orbit said does not work try doing a master reset by ressing and holding the dvr/vcr button and stand by button simultaneously. This would erase all your assignments so you would need to reassign all your sources hooked up to your onkyo.

My onkyo tx-sr705 produces a humming noise out off all the speakers when no audio is played

I found the source of my hum. I have Direct TV HD. I found that going into the menu settings (Direct tv HD Receiver) /Audio/Sound Effects and turning that option off, I was able to rid myself of the annoying hum. The option has something to do with keeping the audio settings from channel to channel, while it is changing you hear dead air except for the hum. Nice and quit now. Love this receiver!
