Toshiba TDP-S8 Projector Inoperative

When the ON/STANDBY button on the TDP-S8 is pressed, the green light cycles from on to off, then back to on; usually nothing else happens. Occasionally, the lamp inside comes on for about 2 seconds, then goes out. The device does nothing else. Resetting the power does not help. I have never received the message indicating we are approaching the lifetime hours of the bulb. Any idea what's wrong?

I have the same projector with the same problem, and after looking on other forums, the solution is that the 3300uF 10v electrolytic capacitor swells and needs to be replaced. Take the projector apart by removing the screw located on the bottom and everything will snap apart. You need a soldiering iron to do this, but only takes a few hours. The part can be found for about $1 + S/H. You can replace the capacitor with one between 2200uF ~ 4000uF /10v-16v.

The main board has 2 caps near the rear audio input that get pushed off the board buy the balist power supply they are smt type if you can get them to reconnect by reheating with low heat iron you can then glue them to prevent this from happening again.
To deturmine if this it what is the problem pull the cover from over the
color wheel if it doesn't turn when hitting power these caps are in the motor control so that will fix it if you get the caps back in the curcuit!!!

I have the same projector, and had the SAME problem.
After unplugging and taking on a trip it didn't work...it just lit up for 2 secs, and then shut off....

LEAVE it plugged in for as long as it takes for the light to stop blinking, and then it should start up on its own, or if you press the on/standby buton.
Be patient, hope this works for you too!

Standby light for toshiba

probably power supply or ballast (starts the lamp)

either would be $600.00 or so to repair, probably costs more than the projector is worth.
