This cure to this problem "is not" an adjustment. The picture & convergence is perfect. There is no adjustment that can adjust bows on both side of the screen. The cure is going to be a bad part, what part is defective?

  • earl mccain Jul 06, 2008

Once again, this problem is not an adjustment,
a person would have had to have this problem before & remember what part cured the problem.

  • earl mccain Jul 07, 2008

Thanks, but just suggesting a cap is out in the horz. is really no help.Help would be the location and cap value .The horz. circuit is much to large to just suggest "a cap is bad" Thanks ,your at least on the right track.

  • earl mccain Jul 07, 2008

If anyone has a manuel or know "which cap" is bad (probably in pincushion circuit) please respond to the problem listed for this W/S Samsung TV thats Bowed in on both sides, Thanks , rioconcho

  • earl mccain Jul 07, 2008

If anyone has a service manuel and knows the defective part and location # then they can actually help.

  • earl mccain Jul 07, 2008

Having a service manuel does not tell a person what part is defective,"only a person whom has had this problem & was able to repair it" can effectivly answer this problem. Telling a person they need a "new several hundred dollar new board" is really rediculous ,the problem will be a part that sells for less then $3.00 .If you don't know the part thats bad don't reply.

  • earl mccain Jul 09, 2008

Thanks for all the sugestions. So far none have cured the problem so if anyone has any new things to try please respond.

Convergence ICs are STK392-120, one of them is faulty. You need to test the pico fuse at the base of the convergence ICs and replace the IC.
After replacing the IC perform service convergence adjustment shown.

Hello,

Most of the cases, this kind of problem fault in the horizontal and vertical projection of the TV. If you can self tech the TV you have to check the REgulator and the capacitor in the circuitry mainly in the ver and hor board. however some cases can be resolve by some sort of adjustment inside the the TV which allowing to tweak the adjustment therein if it is not auto adjustment.

On the otherhand, if you change the convergence board guess it was mis-match in the system and not correct the power output regulated by that board.

reminders:

some replace may not fit, So use or replace the original replacement reccomended by the manufacturer.

I would recommend going to the following link and getting the service manual so you can see first hand disassembly instructions and testing procedures. Its only 10.99 and they email it to you shortly after purchase. The manual is a valuable resource as it will have part numbers in case you do need a new KD board. heres the link.

This is a problem with the pincushion circuit. Usually this gets traced to a capacitor in the circuit. I don't have themanual for this model. If you look at the PC board, the circuits may be labeled. If so, look for a small capacitor in the 10 microfarad range in that circuit. It will be defective.

Picture is bowed at the top and bottom of the screen. The "Perfect Focus" option does not work to fix this. Is there a way to manualy adjust the picture

If the perfect focus isnt working its caused by failed convergence. You can get the convergence board from www.tvrepairworld.com its under the Samsung / Akai circuit boards.

the next time it is not working go into the customer menu with remote and call up the convergence grid and look---there---if convergence is way off and or comes and goes---this set uses 2 Stk-392-570 ic's and it is quite common to see them become intermittant.

Screen is bowed on top and bottom.

Projection sets have two very common problems outlined below.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. The TV can also shut down when the convergence starts to fail.

Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith, RCA and others.

You can more info and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from TV Repair Kits using the link at the end of this article.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped or bowed
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Distorted Screen for RCA HD56w66

convergence is the problem. first question do you have convergence in the customer setup menu. if you do not it could be a special small fuse if you do have "convergence" in the setup menu then you most likely have a convergence power board issue. and generally they are replaced. in our shop such board replacement average 124 labor and about 100 for part. if the fuse bout 15 for part and 80 for labor. there are solder connection that cause the blown fuse

how badly is it bowed on both sides? if it is too much. ther is a fuse resistor that is gone bad near the coil in the east west section. you need to replace that. if it is not too much..you need to get into the service mode to fix that..good luck
