On the bottom of the mother board just below the external power connector. You basically have to disassemble the entire computer, remove the MB from its metal shield and turn it over to get to it. I just fixed a Latitude 640 by re-soldering this component. It had a hairline crack on one of the legs' solder joint. Not sure what this component is but be careful about the amount of heat you use in case it is heat sensitive.

Here's a link with a service manual for the D600, the download is towards the bottom of the page. If this doesn't help, get back to me and I'll see what I can find.

A power spike broke Dell Precision M20 motherboard

Hi there!

Yes it really does damage the motherboard when that kind of things happen.

You'd rather replace the motherboard than repairing it.

Hope this helps!

I Have a Dell Inspiron 6400 with Vista and It seems I am getting a memory or motherboard issue as the Caps and scroll lock LED's flash when I switch on and hold the FN key. Basically the laptop is not...

Getting the motherboard fixed may not be a cost effective solution.
You can salvage some of the components to use eg. the RAM and the hard disk.
Put the hard disk into an USB hard drive adapter case and use it as an external USB hard drive for backups etc.

Hi, Ive got a inspiron 530s (slimline) that won't boot, front LED stays solid abmer and fans turn over once but no boot. Changed PSU and reseated all components, neither helped. Think its the motherboard...

Yes. It is 0RY007. Check the following links.

You should call Dell and ask them for a new one though. They would send you the correct part.

My inspiron 9200 has a flashing amber light. It is the one on the right and it flashes four times, then keeps repeating. Thanks, john

It is an error code. Dell support can tell you what the exact code means but usually it is a graphics card, power supply, RAM, or motherboard issue. Hope this helps.

DELL d600 model pp01l

If your motherboard traces are damaged, I would highly recommend replace the board. This model laptop can have considerably high current running through that jack and traces. if anything is weak it will burn through.

Or take it to a electronics specialist.

Your solution was spot on...

I was just curious to the original problem post and who exactly you are referring to here. I also fix alot of laptops and do some circuitry component work as well, and I can always use a bit of info from time to time, especially from someone who knows what their talking about. Unlike a few I've encountered that their qualifications are "I took my dad's old laptop apart once", and.... I would like to see the original problem you're talking about and talk to the tech, any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Dell motherboard {GX 270} over heating.

Hi

It seems the system is "dying" or already "dead". The initial heat issues suggests a faulty Processor (PRC) Fan. Faulty Power Supply Unit (PSU) Fan can have same effect.

Open the Base unit; disconnect everything (incluiding Keyboard, mouse, network) power-up and check that PRC and PSU fans are working.

Also check the QUAD Pack Diagnostic LEDs and compare the sequence with http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx270/en/ug/solve.htm#1235408.

This will help with identifying the cause. Try the Dell Suggested Resolution.
