On the bottom of the mother board just below the external power connector. You basically have to disassemble the entire computer, remove the MB from its metal shield and turn it over to get to it. I just fixed a Latitude 640 by re-soldering this component. It had a hairline crack on one of the legs' solder joint. Not sure what this component is but be careful about the amount of heat you use in case it is heat sensitive.

Here's a link with a service manual for the D600, the download is towards the bottom of the page. If this doesn't help, get back to me and I'll see what I can find.

Tom - I thought the video adapter was part of the motherboard on a D630. How are you fixing a bad video adapter and 'often without parts'? I only asking because I have a D630 that I believe has a bad video adapter and would like to resurrect this PC. It is in otherwise great shape.

Thanks in advance. - John

A power spike broke Dell Precision M20 motherboard

Hi there!

Yes it really does damage the motherboard when that kind of things happen.

You'd rather replace the motherboard than repairing it.

Hope this helps!

I have a Dell Latitude D510 with the input power circuitry has blown components. I am trying to locate a schematic Diagram of this section. I need to find the values of several components.

In this regard if there are circuits blown from the laptop of motherboard, my best advise is have the motherboard replace or call DELL technical support for assistance to have same model of the motherboard that your laptop had. Thank you.

HI I have Sony VAIO VGN-fz180e which I dropped now it won't boot and it shows: No TPM or TPM has problem System BIOS shadowed Video BIOS shadowed Is my motherboard broken? John

Seems that the BOIS on the motherboard is all shaken up. Can you remove the bottom plates and press it back into the seating. And while you still have it opened, press the RAM dims as well.

I Have a Dell Inspiron 6400 with Vista and It seems I am getting a memory or motherboard issue as the Caps and scroll lock LED's flash when I switch on and hold the FN key. Basically the laptop is not...

Getting the motherboard fixed may not be a cost effective solution.
You can salvage some of the components to use eg. the RAM and the hard disk.
Put the hard disk into an USB hard drive adapter case and use it as an external USB hard drive for backups etc.

My inspiron 9200 has a flashing amber light. It is the one on the right and it flashes four times, then keeps repeating. Thanks, john

It is an error code. Dell support can tell you what the exact code means but usually it is a graphics card, power supply, RAM, or motherboard issue. Hope this helps.

Your solution was spot on...

I was just curious to the original problem post and who exactly you are referring to here. I also fix alot of laptops and do some circuitry component work as well, and I can always use a bit of info from time to time, especially from someone who knows what their talking about. Unlike a few I've encountered that their qualifications are "I took my dad's old laptop apart once", and.... I would like to see the original problem you're talking about and talk to the tech, any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
