I have a neptune water meter at my home, my water bill went from around 110.00 per month, then last month I received a bill for $392.00, I have had my home checked for leaks by a plumber, the City who owns the meter says there is nothing wrong with the meter. I am confused as to how a single person who gone from home all day could consume that amount of water

You need to read the article that CNN reported about Atlanta having the same issues with the residents their... Its because the used a 1" pipe instead of 3/4 pipe which caused billing issues.

How do I read my new meter that is hooked up to my solar panels?

Interesting question. We have solar too but never got around to learning how to read the meter itself as I usually look at the on line (phone app) for the solar production. Reading the meter can give you the actual amount you will be charged if you have the 1st of the month reading and the end of the month reading. With a bit of math you can subtract the amount your panels produced to the amount you used. That's the basics used on your electric bill. Though they do add in the tax, fuel fee, and Admin charge. The fees are usually only charge if you used power in excess of what you produced. But they will always charge the Admin service fee which is about $18 in Hawaii. I've heard similar (under $20) charges in other states.
"888888" is a test mode to check display
"001 ######" Lifetime consumption (power used)
"071 ######" Lifetime over production(power sent back)
"252" The type of service (which is NETMETERING)

* Yes, a bit confusing and requires you to gather up your old electric bills to get all the numbers. I generally look on the bill for the daily K-watt usage and compare that to the daily usage. We use 42 Kilo watts per day in our home. If the solar produces 42 K watts today then I have an idea that we produced enough to cover today's power usage. Rainy days will produce less be may be compensated by several sunny days. The summer is always best as the sun shines all the time. No worries. Usually the first year after a new solar installation. The customer will incur some months with a higher bill (but still lower than a non-solar billing). But as the year progresses into the summer (or sunny months) your bills will lower usually to the Admin charge level. It will be higher if you have an under power demand system (or under sized system, BELOW what your normal usage is.)
Next year you will probably forget about checking and reading as the bill will settle.

Overcharge due to faulty credit meter

You could try to adjust the meter. It seems as if the calculation is off. You should be able to work with the electric company. They should be charging you the highest rate 100 percent of the time.

Cost of running window a/c unit

the total power used is 750 watts so multiply that by the number of hours in use say 60 hours a week
so 60 X 750 = 42000 or 4.2 kw hours X 4 cents per kw/h =418 cents or $4.18 per week X 4 weeks =$16.72
if you are a college student talk with a maths teacher and see if what I an calculating is correct but there is no way that the ac unit will cost $150.00 a month to run
you have to be careful here as to charge you for an ac unit , it has to be on a separate meter and I suspect that he is trying to get you to subsidise his electricity account outside of the rent costs which include power for the stove and hot water
as an example we run a 2.7kw ac for 12 hours or longer and the total household bill at 21 cents / kw hour ( we live in a country where the power is a major component of the household budget) is around $360.00 per month so I think that by comparison he is trying to rip you off
seek legal advice on the subject and if the rent payment includes electricity usage then he will need a separate meter to charge for the ac unit

Problem1 is excessive electric bill.
Suspect is new 120Volt Taco recirculation pump.
Look at motor nameplate for amps and watts and HP. Taco pump is usually robust 1/3 HP which is 252 watts or same as running four 60 watt light bulbs.
If pump runs 18 hours per day x 252 watts = 4536 watts or 4.5 Kilowatts per day
Buy a kill-o-watt meter that plugs into outlet, and plug Taco pump into the meter for 48 hours.
This will give you total watts used for that time period.
1000 watts = 1 kilowatt.
Electric bill is probably 12 to 20 cents per kilowatt.
So if Taco uses 4.5 kilowatts per day, that is $.54 to $.90 per day multiplied by 30 days.
So cost is $15 to $30 per month.

Problem2 is Taco runs too long.
Taco operates either by thermostat or by timer. You choose which mode by using slide switch that is usually located under the timer dial. Set switch to TIMER to use timer, and ON to use thermostat, and off to turn TACO off.
If Taco is set for thermostatic operation, the Taco might be defective. Or there could be crossover problem at single handled faucet.
Another problem could be air in the water line: install air vent.

Heating element drawing lots of power, big bill power

Well a dryer heating element does draw quite a bit of amps(that is why it is 220) but it cycles on and off & it is not an appliance that is used everyday. The first think I would do is read the electric meter and verify that it was not misread before condeming the dryer. If the electric meter reads are correct then it is possible it could be the dryer heating element shorting. How much do you actually use the dryer? Is the heating in your house electric and have you been using it? You could also have your electric company test the meter. Look at your usage of electricity for last year at the same time(it will be on the bill) and see what the number was.

I have a new 1 hp hayward on my new inground. It is on it's on electric meter and my bill has been $130/month for the pump alone. It's very hot to the touch. Is any of this "normal"? Everyone that i...

Yes, it is normal for a motor to be hot to the touch.

The motor draws on the order of 8 amps at 220 volts. The calculation:

Watts = Volts x Amps = 220 x 8 = 1760 watts

At, say $.20 per killowatt hour, the cost to run the pump 12 hours per day for a month =

1760 Watts x 12 hours/day x 30 days / 1000 watts x $.20 = $127

You can substitute your actual numbers for the variables, to get an accurate cost.
