Question about Kenmore 18.3 cu. ft. Top Freezer Refrigerator w/Through-the-Door Water Dispenser

1 Answer

Leaking frig. Inside my fridge leaks. I see that a lot of people have the same issue. I have pulled everything out of the freezer and tawed the ice out and cleaned it up pretty good. Do I need to open the back of my Kenmore fridge and see if the defroster drain that goes to the drip pan is clogged? My wife wants to buy a new one but I just want to fix the problem. When I defrosted the entire freezer (under the dummy shelf on the bottom of the freezer too) it started leaking again. Help!! Nate

This was very helpful. Once I pulled the back panel off the back inside freezer I found the drain hold completely froze up with water. After a couple minutes of using a hair dryer and then pouring hot water down the line it broke free and the hot water made it to the drip pan. Thanks a lot for you help. I guess my next question would be, how do I prevent a freeze up again in the drain line? What caused it to freeze up. Nothing seem to me restricting the water from going to the drip pan other than it be frozen.

    Nate

  • take out the back wall of the freezer and physically clean out the line. you may need to run a coat hanger or something down the drain to unclog it. also pour some hot water down the drain after you think you have it unclogged.
  • the water is coming from the freezer when is defrosts. the drain line is in the back wall of the freezer and may be clogged up with ice. clean out the freezer and pour some hot water in the very back of the freezer, this will hopefully unclog the drain. if not, then you have to take the back wall out of the freezer to get directly to the drain line. there should just be a couple screws holding it; it is just an aluminum or plastic panel.

Water leaking from inside the freezer

if the bottome of the freezer floor is frozen then the most common cause is that the defrost drain is cloged, the back wall will mostlikley need to be removed and defrosted, then i use hot water & a long zip tie to make sure the drain is clear, don't use anything too hard as to punch a hole in a drain hose.

Ice maker is making ice but leaking alot of water under the fridge and in the freezer. What can I do to shut if off until I repair the ice maker?

pull our your frig. and follow the water line coming into it. the other end should have a valve on it in the floor or the wall. turn off the valve and that will stop any water from coming to your frig for water or ice making.

Whirlpool refrigerator leaks water inside the frig. It gathers in the pan under the lowest sliding drawer. Possibly something to do with the icemaker? I don't use the icemaker -- I flipped up the bar...

Its a done deal...:) On MY whirlpool MODEL # ETICHMXKBO3 I found the drain hole frozen.. There was some debris and clogged it up and water froze up behind it causing the deck of my freezer to fill and freeze up and cause the water to drain into the fridge. Solution: remove the ice maker(if equipped) remove the rear aluminum cover. I used a heat gun and melted the 1 1/2 of ice build up and softly with a screw driver clean the drain. When drain is visible use scolding hot water until it starts flowing to the bottom tray. I used my air compressor to finish it off....
