Question about Denon Audio & Video Receivers

Open Question

Hi, I have a Denon DRA-F100 personal component system/AM FMStereo Receiver. I have had this stereo for over 8 years and never had any problems. However, last month the right speaker stopped working. I have tried connecting the speaker to the left speaker port to check whether it was the speaker, and it actually worked-which therefore means that there is a problem with the stereo component it self. Is there something I can do to remedy this myself, or will I have to have it professionally repaired? If the latter, do you know within what price range I should I expect for any repairs undertaken? Any and all help/advice given will be much appreciated. Many Thanls, G. Percival

SOURCE: Sony STR-DE845 center channel cut out, receiver clicks

I have fixed 3 shorts on my de845. 2 have been caused by cracked solder joints. they were speaker cutout problems...yours most likely is the center channel relay on the main board. take the thing apart. you need to get to the back of the main board and re-flo those solder joints. get your geeky pc buddy and do it together(buy him a sixer). its really not that hard...just a bunch of screws. disconnect everything from the main board including the front plate. be careful with the ribbon cable...mine is hurting at this point. not meant to be removed so many times. put it in straight. my leads bent, but was able to straighten them. there are 5 relays together, one for each channel. they are white cubes and prb a little smaller than the tip of your finger. its the 4 leads on each of these that you want to take a soldering iron to . i'm not sure which ones the center channel so do them all in that area. it may be hard for you to tell which leads they are so just go overboard and at least get everything in the vacinity. i did all component leads because who's to say another's not ready to go bad. you've gone this far. touch the heated up tip to all the leads at the very end of the barb. you can reflow the solder without actually touching it. the metal lead will get hot enough. hold it until the solder liquifies, then let it cool. do this on a flat surface. my other fix once was a re-seating at the speaker switch a,b,a+b on the front plate. there are 2 boards plugged together there. i bent the leads slightly so they seated in more tightly. if your left or right front goes out, sometimes thats an easy fix...try b if you're using a, or the opposite. don't forget the speaker cables. if you're using both zones then you prb already figured out you need to re-flo! test and cross your fingers. good luck.

SOURCE: denon receiver (DRA 397) will not speak to iPod dock

IF YOUR NOT USING A DENON IPOD DOCKING STATION IT WILL NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY.
YOU CAN CONNCET OTHER TYPES OF IPOD DOCKING STATIONS BUT YOU WILL NOT HAVE CONTROL THROUGH THE DENON AND ONLY CONNECT THE AUDIO FOR THAT DOCKING STATION TO THE DENON AS ANOTHER SOURCE INPUT

Unswitched power has nothing to do with the power supply of the receiver. Look for blown fuses or a failed component on the power supply.

We bought our Denon 395 4 years ago. Is it set up for HDTV and IPhone (IPod) use? Also, how can we get a manal as it was lost in moving. Charles Barrett cbarrett1410@yahoo.com

It is an analog STEREO-only receiver so it is NOT compatible with multichannel or even digital audio. The TV is irrelevant.

Re: the iPhone:

Anything that has a headphone output can be adapted to feed an RCA cable pair for standard stereo to any audio device with a standard RCA input. Get a cable like the one described here:

and connect it into any available analog input EXCEPT "Phono". Turn the MP3 player volume up.

How do i hook up an ipod to a denon dra-685?

you can use a 1/8 inch female to stereo RCA adapter and plug the patch cable into one of your inputs like DVD or CD player. The signal to noise ratio on those inputs is pretty good.

Connecting new tv to DRA-685

you can use the headphone jack just get an adaptor to change from the headphone type to RCA type. adjust the volume of the tv to 3/4 of the way to give line level to the stereo, use an aux input on the stereo. if you had a suround sound dolby digital / DTS receiver then use the digital coax out to that type of receiver, but since you have an anolog 2 channel receiver you must use the only anolog source (the headphone).
