2002 Mazda Fuel Shut off Switch

You need to get the codes that are stored before you narrow down the problem. Auto Zone parts store will get the codes out for free. I do not think there is any obligation to buy the parts from them. The part may not be defective. It just may have come loose from hitting the pot hole.

Sounds like you hit it hard. It is possible to check your fuel pressure for fuel pressure coming to the engine while you crack it. If your fuel pressure is not between 30-45 PSI your fuel pump is damaged...

If it hit real hard it might have shut off the fuel there should be a fuel shut off reset button try pushing it then cycle your key a few times then try to start it

check owners manual for a fuel shut off switch and location, this is made or designed for when a car gets into accidents, (as you did hit a pot hole as you said pretty hard) It could have sensed that and tripped causing it to shut off the fuel to motor. Depress button on switch with key on and i hope this solves your problem.

The next thing i would check is the ignition switch itself. Turn the key to the on position, If the red warning lights on your dash don't light up (and your battery connections are clean), the ignition switch is bad. If they do light up, turn the key to the start position. The dash warning lights should turn off at this key position (most cars). If you're not sure, turn on the headlights. When you try to start the car, the lights should either dim (a lot) or turn off completely. If they do, your ignition switch should be ok. If not, the switch will need replacement.

I had a Mazda 626 with a similar problem, the car seemed to 'shut down' with no warning, even at highway speeds, as if I just turned the ignition key to 'Off'; After trying to fix it unsuccessfully by replacing several electrical parts, the problem was found to be a defective ignition switch, it was replaced and the problem went away.

Does the electric fuel pump come on when you turn the key? It should make a buzzing noise for 3 seconds or so.

I tried to post this once,so here goes the 2nd time,there is an emergency shut-off switch on the fuel-somtimes located in the rear and if you hit a big pot-hole it will shut down-that could be your problem-call the dealership-ask for the service dept and ask them if your car has the switch-if so where? Or it may be electrical-check to see if you have a loose cable or wire by your fuel tank
