Question about Samsung HTP-1200 System

Setting Up Samsung Home Theatre System

I need a professional advice on the Samsung Home Theater System (Flat Panel 52” LCD HDTV 1080p, Digital Surround AV Receiver System HT-AS720S, Blu-Ray Disc Player BD-P1400) I bought from BestBuy in Toronto, Canada recently. I am in the Philippines. I think I am not getting my money’s worth until I get satisfaction on the quality of audio the system is expected to deliver. I would like to think that I haven’t set up the system right. This documentation is for the purpose of validating with Samsung technical guys if the set up was not proper. (I must say the pieces of technology appliances are NOT very user-friendly.)

1. When playing the Blu-Ray Disc Player, the 2 rear speakers and the sub-woofer are not working.

I may have made a mistake in setting up because I did not notice Page 24 of the Instruction Manual on the subject of Setting HDMI AUDIO which says:

Before using!
• Press the INPUT MODE button to select HDMI1 or HDMI2.
• If you select Digital (Optical, Coaxial)or Analog, the HDMI audio setting will be deactivated.

I am not sure but I may have selected Digital or Analog (I have not seen HDMI1 or HDMI2 while setting up), but there should be a series of commands to get it back to HDMI.

I am not also sure if the only way to get HDMI AUDIO is through a HDMI Cable, which was not supplied and which I haven’t bought and therefore haven’t installed.

When testing the speakers automatically (TEST-T AUTO) or manually (TEST-T MANU), all installed speakers are functioning.

I would like to know the recommended settings for the following (the Instruction Manual is vague on these):
• DIGITAL IN (the INPUT MODE button seem not to be working after the AVR has been initially set up.
• HDMI AUDIO (message did not appear while setting up. Is the HDMI cable necessary?)
• EX/ES MODE (How is that? My AVR is 7.1 and my Blue-Ray Disc Player is 5.1. Does it matter?)
• SET UP MODE (The other buttons seem not working anymore. I can’t choose EFFECTS anymore.)

2. When inputting TV signal to the AVR, the 7.1 doesn’t work. Is this correct? Or am I just missing something?

We had the same problem with the rear speakers not working and we tried so many things. We found a button at the bottom of the blu-Ray remote that says MODE and changed it from stereo to Matrix or Movie and ta da it worked. I guess we had all the connections correct. We used a HDMI cable and an optical.
I am no expert, but it's working now : )

There should be an optical output on the sky box which you connect to the amp. This should then give you the surround sound you want from sky

To appreciate the benfits of Blu-Ray you really need to use a HDMI lead. You need to coonect the HDMI from the Blu-Ray directly to the TV HDMI. Then using an optical or digital audio lead connect the Blu Ray to otcal/digital input on your reciver to give you your surround sound Or if your reciver has HDMI inputs connect the HDMI output on the BLU RAy to a HDMI input on the reciever then a further HDMI from the reciever to the TV.

So if you haven't got a HDMI cable displayed you wont get that option

Rob Have you connected the the digital output from your Sky + box to the digital aux input on your homecinema system. If not get a optical (usually is on Sky boxes) and connect it from the digital out on the sky box to the digital in on your system You should now get digital sound from your favourite TV shows

Connect home theatre to 32" lcd to ps3

Depending on the year of your model of VIZIO your digital optical output may be tied to the DTV input only. Meaning the only time you will have audio coming out of the digital optical output is when your using the tuner and your on a digital channel. If your television is newer and the digital optical output is in white on the back of the television than it is tied to HDMI and the DTV Tuner and you will pass audio through the digital optical output when using HDMI or the Digital Tuner.

Now to get connect the HT: Normally you would run a digital optical cable from the source device to the home theatre system. Meaning if it was a PS3 you would run a optical cable from the Digital Out on the back of the PS3 to the Digital In on the Home Theatre receiver. If it was a DVD player than you would run the optical cable from the DVD player to the HT receiver. If you have a newer VIZIO and the optical output is in white and not black than you can run HDMI from the PS3 to the VIZIO and then run a optical cable from the VIZIO to the Home theater receiver.

You will have to adjust the audio setting in the PS3 to run audio out of the HDMI port if it is set to run audio out of the Digital Out or AV out. Also, if your going to run audio from the PS3 to the HT receiver through the Digital Out then you need to change the audio setting in the PS3 to Digital Out.

1. Select (Sound Settings) under (Settings) in the home menu.
2. Select [Audio Output Settings].
3. Select the input connector on the audio device.

Channel numbers and audio formats that are supported vary depending on the connector in use. AV is 2 ch. only, Digital Out is 2 ch. & 5.1 ch, and HDMI is upto 7.1.

How to redirect the sound of my new LG 52" HDTV LCD to my LG home theatre?

Flemflam-   There is a couple of options here. If you are using a DirecTV Receiver or a box from the cable company then you want to run the Audio out lines to your Audio/Surround Sound Receiver. If you are running cable directly into the TV then you want to use the Audio Out Plugs on the TV. In some cases there is no Audio out but there is a Headphones out. In this case you can run a Mini-Plug to Composite Audio cable to the receiver.    You can also Call 1-800-GeekSquad and they will dispatch an Home Theater Installer to resolve your problem! They are great for Turn Key Solutions!

How to redirect the sound of my new LG 52" HDTV LCD to my LG home theatre?

There sould be audio outputs on the back of it, and the manual should clearly show how to set up a home theatre with an external sound system and all.

I don't know what kind of sound system you have, but I think it might be best to connect your video source (typically DVD player) to your sound system, as it usually can be done better that way. No need to introduce another link in the chain (your TV) that could degrade sound. Also any external tuner could (should) be connected to your sound system directly.

If you use the internal tuner in your TV to watch TV the audio out is your option. Best way to get this right is to consult the manual. They usually have some diagrams that shows a few options of how to do it.
