Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.

  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.

Fridge isn't staying cold, the freezer works OK.

if your freezer is working fine and you hear your compressor running you could have a frozen drain tube or more than likely the evaperator motor fan has failed.this is the fan that circulates the cold air from freezer throughout frigerator.what kind of unit is it?side by side or top mount freezer or what?let me know

I have an old kenmore fridge maybe a 90's model it's an off white color probably from age and alittle rusty, it's a top freeze and the freezer works great but the fridge section can barely keep...

all the fridge does is the freezer gets cold and the evap fan blows cold air from the freezer down into the fridge section,so open the freezer door,if you don't hear the fan blowing you have a bad evap fan motor, also the drain can be blocked and it freezes up the air ducts so the air can't circulate down into the fridge,is there water under the bottom crisper draws?if so the drain in the freezer is blocked, you have to take everything out of the freezer, remove the back wall, melt out all the ice and clean out the drain under the evap coil.i use a steemer to clean out the drain,if you don't have a steemer you have to melt out the ice in the drain with the hair dryer, then get like a turkey baster or anything that can blow down into the hole, pour hot water into the drain,if it drains out then you're done,if it doesn't keep hitting it,another thing is touch the inside back wall of the freezer,if there's like frost or like snow covering the back in side freezer wall you have a defrost problem, bad defrost thermostat, heater or timer, the last thing is the door was left open, you can tell this by looking at the food packages and the ceiling and walls,if you see frozen water droplets on your food packages or on the shelf or walls the door was left open and the air ducts are frozen, you have to melt the ice out of the air ducts.so open the freezer door, listen for the fan,no fan could have a bad fan motor, look for ice on back inside freezer wall or frozen water droplets, the door was left open or you have a defrost problem. also when was the last time you vacuumed out the coil unless it's on the back wall,if the coil is behind the bottom kickplate vac it out that will make a big difference.you can get back to me and let me know what you find or melt it out with a hair dryer like i said.good luck and let me know what you find.one more thing,if your ice cream is not staying hard just soft you could have a leak in the sealed system, but if i were you i wouldn't put any money into that machine,if you change it out you'll save money on your electric bill and usually once something on those old dogs starts to go wrong it's not long before it totally dies

My kenmore side-by-side refrigerator is less than 4-years old. freezer works but refrigerator stde does not get cold. ice accumulates on lower vent in refrigerator.

all it does is the evap fan blows cold air from the freezer into the fridge section and returns through the bottom air vent,so if there's ice there most likely one of the doors was left open, check the freezer for frozen water droplets on packages or on the walls and shelves of the machine,if you don't see that open the freezer door,if you don't hear the fan blowing you could have a bad evap fan motor.if the fan is blowing in the freezer from the bottom remove the second draw or bin and put your hand on the back inside wall of the freezer,if there's frost or like snow on the back wall you have a defrost problem, bad defrost thermostat, defrost heater, timer or board depending on what model you have,if the fan is blowing and you don't see any problems that i talked about you could have a bad damper,on some machines there's a damper door that opens and closes to let cold air into the fridge section,if it's bad it won't open and no cold air can blow in from the freezer,if you think the door was left open, remove anything that's in the way,in the freezer side and the fridge side, shut the machine down or unplug it and with a hair dryer melt out the ice, don't keep the heat in one place for to long, you can melt the vent if it's plastic or styrofoam, after you think it's melted out start the machine and put your hand up in the left hand corner in the fridge section and see if you can feel any cold air blowing in,there could be ice up there too, next time send the model number so i can look up your model,on a side by side you'll find the tag on the right hand side wall in the fridge up near the ceiling or on the ceiling near the light.hope this helps,if you have another fridge you could move the food and just shut the fridge down with the doors open and let it melt out on it's own overnight.good luck

My freezer frosted over everything because the door was not shut tight and now it will not clear.

take out all the food out of the freezer, unplug the fridge and get a hair dryer and start melting out all the ice in the freezer, then blow the hot air into the vent holes on the back wall until you don't see any more water dripping down through the slots in the back wall.turn the machine back on,open the fridge door after around 5 or 10 minutes and if you feel cold air blowing into the fridge you fixed the problem,if you don't feel cold air keep hitting the inside back wall with the hair dryer and keep blowing the hot air into the holes in the back wall.all that it does is the freezer gets cold and there's a fan behind the back wall in the freezer, the fan blows the cold air into the fridge side,if the air ducts are frozen the air can't circulate into the fridge section so you have to melt the ice out so the cold air can blow from the freezer to the fridge.good luck,if you have another fridge remove the food and unplug it and leave the doors open for a day and it will melt out.good luck

At back of unit I disconnected line and get water and I know that the switch works but no water comes out front?

When you push in the water dispenser do you hear two clicks? The first click is the switch in the front. The second click is the solenoid in the back. The solenoid has to open to let water through. If you don't hear that second click then it is most likely the solenoid.
If you remove the grill below the fridge doors you will find a plastic line and a coupling. disconnect the coupling. Push the dispenser arm in and see if water comes out. If it does then you have a frozen water line in the freezer door. Most likely it is frozen right below the ice cube dispenser door as it sometimes leaks out cold air if it does not shut properly. You can use a heat gun or hair dryer to thaw the line. Be careful not to melt any of the components.
If you do not get water out of the line at the coupling then it may be frozen in the fridge cooling coil. This is rare and usually only happens if you run your fridge on a very cold setting.

Ice maker quit working and I feel that it is not getting as cold as it should (i.e. ice cream melts but other items like vegetables stay frozen).

clean the coil behind the fridge or under the fridge (where ever they are) and make sure both fans are running, the one in the freezer and the one underneath or low freon from factory or small hole in system

if noting happen or compressor motor is not running call your
