Kenmore HD gas dryer won't heat up

I have a kenmore Heavy duty gas dryer, model 110 87821100.  It will not open the gas valve to heat up.  The igniter glows orange but the valve for the gas doesn't open to send the gas to the igniter.  It has the 2 valve gas valve. Is it the valve that has crapped out or would it be a sensor problem? Tim

I am sending you all the possibilities for your problem, check either of these causes ----and than let me know if it is solved----

Power from the house
Check to see whether there's power getting to the dryer. Is it plugged in? Check for blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers--your dryer uses two fuses or circuit breakers. The dryer could tumble but not heat if only one of the two fuses is blown. If you have circuit breakers, one of the two circuit breakers can trip, even if the two for the dryer are connected.

Heating element
Often a dryer heating element burns out, but doesn't trip the circuit breaker or blow a fuse. The heating element is simply a long coil of special wire. You can check it for continuity with an ohm meter. No continuity means the element is bad and you need to replace it--electric heating elements aren't repairable.

Thermal fuse
On many dryers, there's a thermal fuse mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel. The fuse--which is about an inch long--is usually embedded in black resin and mounted in a white plastic housing. If the fuse has blown, you need to replace it. (You can't re-set it.)

Wiring
A common problem is for the main wiring connection from the house, at the dryer, to burn and break its connection. Because the dryer can still tumble with partial power, the connection may be only partially defective. You may need to replace both the power cord to the dryer and the terminal block inside the dryer that the wire is attached to.

Kenmore dryer model 11062972100 does not heat up. Element does not appear to be broken. any ideas?

Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

check out this electric no heat tip...

My dryer dont dry

Possible causes depend on the dryer model and type. Electric dryers work diffeently from gas dryer.

Both electric and gas dryers usually have a thermal fuse located at the back of the appliance. Check if thermal fuse/switch is blown or tripped , and eventually replace it.

If the fuse is ok, and appliance is running but not drying, then next part to test will be the thermostat.

A dryer thermostat can be tested using a multimeter , set to read impedance at RX1. If the thermostat is good, it must have low Ohms at room temp, and return no continuity (infinite ohms) at temp. limit.

At this points things are different depending if dryer is gas or electrical.

On a gas dryer test valve , fan and ignitor.

On electric test the heating element and fan.

On both gas and electric, last part to be tested is the timer control board. If all other parts are fine, go for the timer board.

Refrigerant gas used in Kenmore freezer

Hi: You didn't give me the complete model number. Not to worry though. Look at the model number tag of the freezer. If it's a newer model it will use R134A coolant. The tag will tell you the amount of refrigerant and the type. I hope this helps, Jeff.

I have a Kenmore gas dryer that isn't heating up. The ignitor isn't glowing at all. I checked it with an ohm meter and it was ok, as is the heat sensor. What else could be causing it not to ignite?

You possibly have an open thermal fuse caused by having too much lint in exhaust/vent leaving dryer and in the dryer duct. TEMPORARILY bypass thermal fuse after cleaning out lint to see if that solves the problem. Then REPLACE fuse as it could save a house fire. Check high limit as well thats attached to the duct that the burner is on.
