Check the yoke plug solder joint, as the squiggly lines in the middle usually happens if the yoke is unplugged. So check the yoke plug connections.

Hitachi 53FDX01B 53 in has green line in the middle and in the corner

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony2_bing.gif, Samsung,JVC2_bing.gif,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer2_bing.gif, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith2_bing.gif and others.

53" sony projection -picture washed out w/ green horizontal lines

It sounds like your Green CRT ( picture tube ) is shorted. That's the one in the middle. Sony had issues with there tubes in those years. Sorry for the bad news. Even if you could locate the tube, it will be a matter of time before the Red or Blue does the same.

The red, blue, and green are all out of alignment. HELP!

Sounds like the guns are out of alignment. This isn't normally something that a user can adjust.

Has the television been dropped/jarred or moved recently?

If the TV has a manual degauss function, you can try that (assuming it's really a CRT). Otherwise unplug it from the wall for a half hour, then plug it back in and see if anything has changed.

Red green and blue lines

Most projection TVs have an option to refocus. For example, my Sony rear projection TV has a button on the front for focusing the lamps. Try finding this button or option in the menus with your remote. Projection TVs actually use three lamps, one red, one green and one blue. These need to line up exactly in order to form a good picture, and when they come out of focus, you see the edges which sometimes has the effect of a 3D image when you aren't wearing 3D glasses. Hope this helps!

1 Answer

No picture, just red-blue-green lines through the middle of the screen very faint.

The PT-53WX54 is a standard projection set and does not have a bulb. It has 3 separate picture tubes. If you have lost the picture completely, not even on-screen menu, then something has stopped working in your set. It could be a video processor, vertical deflection or possibly a convergence problem. The set should be serviced by a qualified tech familiar with the Panasonic projection sets.
