Problems reading dvds

My Polaroid portable dvd player PDM8551 is having trouble reading dvds or else they get stuck while playing. The disks play fine on my dvd player hooked up to my tv. The portable player is a little over 1 year old.

Polaroid portable dvd player PDM8551 not reading dvds adequately. Does using an alcohol swab work as well as purchasing a cleaning disk?

I think your dvd lens might have problem. try to repair it to the shop where you bought from if warranty is still there. replacing dvd lens will solve your problem .

Hi

Use a cotton bud moistened with windex(glass cleaner) in a gentle circular motion. . Then clean again with a dry bud to be sure not smearing is left. This is the best way to clean the lens. Try that, but if it doesn't fix it. May be time for an upgrade.

Tip...never use alcohol on a lens for cleaning. It may remove the lens coating.

Have you tried cleaning the lens of the portable player? You can purchase a DVD cleaning disc, this disc has microfiber brushes which clean the laser len assembly of the player as the disc spins.

Hope this helps

No, only use alchol and q-tip or cotton swab on metal contacts, the laser lens assembly is very sensitive and can easily be damaged or scratched.

DVD won't play

Netflix doesn't know what they're talking about. I looked it up - your DVD player doesn't have an autoplay feature. Can you try the DVD on another DVD player. Computers DVD drives generally read them differently - and decode them differently, than a regular DVD player. Also, if your DVD drive is a writable drive, it will have a stronger laser than your DVD player. I think it's likely the disk is damaged, slightly. If you cleaned your DVD's laser, it might be able to read it well enough to play - or it might not. I started having problems like this with a few of my own DVDs before my DVD player's laser went out. Basically it's a combination of laser quality and disc quality. If it remains just this one disk, I'd suggest leaving it alone. But if you start running into this problem on other disks as well, you'll probably want to have the laser replaced in your DVD player.

Plays cds but not dvds

If the lens is clean (clean with cotton swab and alcohol), then the optics are failing. DVDs require more power and accuracy to be read than CDs. The ability to read CDs but not DVDs is usually a good indication that the optics are starting to fail.

DVD player does not read that there is a disk SAY " NO DISK"

Although this is not an answer to the problem, it may help us find one. I have some of the same problems with my player just spinning trying to look for the DVD or it will say bad disc. Sometimes it will start playing and just skip a lot. I think the problem is with the drive motor that spins the DVD. I have opened my player and "jimmy'ed" the door actuator and then spun the disc with my finger. It starts to play fine. I am on the path of looking for a replacement motor or someone to repair it.

My Poloroid DVD will play the Commercial DVDs like Fiox & Hound and Stuart Little, but suddenly will not play the 30 minute PBS Kids Songs DVDs and the Little Einstein Dvds-they played fine before, but I...

I read the other people's problems with the same type DVD player and discovered that the player is only covered by a 30 day warranty...and it would cost more to fix than it is worth. I will just never buy another Poloroid......a lesson learned! I will use our laptop to play the 30 minute DVD's that the player won't play and when the player dies, it dies!

Portable dvd player will play music cds but not video dvds

Chances are, your DVD player uses one laser to read CDs, and a different laser to read DVDs (since Cds and DVDs are read at different wavelenghts of light). If the DVDs you're trying to watch work properly in other DVD players, it probably means that the DVD laser is dirty, damaged, or burned out. Though you can try cleaning the laser (use Google for suggestions on how to do this, or check the Audiovox website), you will most likely have to get the DVD player repaired, or buy a replacement. Many of the newer CD/DVD players sold today use a single combination laser, which reads both CDs and DVDs, which means that when the laser fails, it will not work at all. Wish I had better news for you, but I guess that the only consolation you have is that your Audivox player still works with CDs...
