Should not cause problems, unless the tube is bent, causing the objective to be off center.

Depends on what you broke? The tripod head? is the scope tube dented badly-- any glass broken? You might be able to buy a new MOUNT for the scope from Meade-- call them here:

No one cells a lens cell for this small telescope. Only Meade may have the part. You can call them and see--

However I doubt that they actually stock that part as the tube is imported from overseas.

I dropped something heavy on the tube of my 130GT and dented it slightly. This has affected the optics. Is a replacement tube available, and what would it cost. Noel

The dent in the tube is not the problem, or at least not the whole problem. You will have to re-align the optical parts, which have been disturbed by the impact or possibly the change to the geometry of the tube. This is called "collimation" and you can find lots of articles about how to do it on the web. It is a complex process, though.

Just fitting a new tube will not fix the problem, as the various optical elements will still need to be collimated after having been fitted to a new tube. You would be better off to either live with the dent or remove the mirrors and knock the dent out before re-collimating the scope. You don't need a new tube, but you will have to re-collimate in any case, so save the money. Maybe you could pay for a specialist to do the collimation instead.

This is called "collimation" and is a complex process. You will find many guides to doing this on the internet if you search for "telescope collimation". There is not much point in me repeating the information here- find several of these how-to articles on the net and read them all to get a good idea of what is required.

Unfortunately, Seben telescopes (at least the ones I am familiar with) don't have a simple secondary mirror, but a more elaborate arrangement with a cell containing a diverging lens (similar to a Barlow lens) as well as the diagonal mirror. This allows them to use a much shorter tube for the telescope while retaining a longer effective focal length, but it makes it more fiddly to collimate.

It may be that the secondary cell does not require adjustment, and you can just adjust the primary mirror.

I can see objects through the finderscope, but cannot see anything through the telescope. What am I doing wrong?

Your finder scope is NOT lined up with the main tube. Get a distant object like the top of a telephone pole into the eyepiece of the main telescope tube.

Without moving the scope adjust the crosshairs or the red dot onto the exact same spot. Now your finder scope is lined up with the main telescope tube.

Instructions?

The little tube is the FINDER scope which you line up with the main tube and use to POINT the telescope.

You have a simple refractor. Read these:

HOW bad? If they are small they will not affect anything. Contact your local astronomy club and have one of the members look at your telescope.

Telescope 402 power telescope Do you have a focusing tube for this telescope?

First that small telescope will never reach 400 power. The maximum magnification for any telescope is 50 times the aperture. Yours is probably about 2 inches, so 100 power is the max. They lied to you on the box. This is a typical small department store telescope sold by Toys R Us. We receive more complaints about this scope than just about any other telescope.

Read my Frequently Asked Questions TIP on my profile page.

If the focuser is broken, or the tube is broken you can try taking it back to Toys R Us, however, the repair would cost more than you paid for the scope, and parts are NOT available.
