Question about Panasonic Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

The bulb is not working in my Panasonic NN-A554W inverter slimline combi oven and I do not know the size/number to obtain a replacement. I know you are supposed to get in an engineer but that is a bit excessive for a bulb. I don't want to open it to get the number/closeitagin/then reopen when the part arrives. Can anyone help?

It's a T170 type bulb (should be very common at a grocery store or hardware store) rated at 240 volt, either 20 or 25 watt is okay, and if you order it as a spare online, it may come with the 90-degree bracket.

You can see a good photo and detailed specifications here.

How can I obtain the special Torx-like tool apparently required to remove the back of a Panasonic NN-H655/SN676 Inverter Microwave? I want to replace the light bulb.

Many ovens are now built with "tamper-resistant" Torx screws. These have a center pin to keep a regular driver from fitting. You can buy drivers now at many stores or from online vendors. Sears has them, I think, and I know the Harbor Freight chain carries them if you have one near you. I just tried a search on eBay for "tamper torx" and there are a lot of vendors if you can't find them locally.

I have a panasonic slimline combi NN A554W which was not cheap. worked well until this week. put timer on to microwave and it goes down 5 secs then turns of. A clicking noise can be heard. Clock working....

, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then you unplug the keypad (as per the photo below) and move the circuit board into your frame.

Some connectors on the relays may have a lock:

positivelock.jpg
See if this describes what's happening:
  • Put in time, push start and unit runs for 2 seconds, relay clicks, unit goes off. Cook time on display goes off and clock time comes back. Bad upper interlock switch and charred connector
If so, see http://www.microwavedisplay.com/safety.txt , http://www.microwavedisplay.com/disassembly.txt and http://www.microwavedisplay.com/doorsw.txt

Otherwise, if the digital programmer circuit / controller does not get a feedback signal from the inverter for a period of 3 seconds, the controller will stop the cook cycle.

That may be a loose connection in the wiring between the inverter, magnetron, and/or control board, or maybe one of those components has failed.

Due to the lethal voltages used and produced in inverters, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.

Broken door catch, possible spring, Panasonic Slimline Combi microwave oven NN-A554W.

If you gently push up on the door latches (hook-like devices on the door) there should be spring tension. If they just flop right up, the spring is off.

Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.

If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.

The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.

We have critical safety & disassembly info at our site, linked here.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

The best place to order parts is Tritronics. You can also call them at 866-779-5835.
