Hi Latoof:
Many thanks for your helpful comment. Unfortunately I don't have the F key you describe on my keyboard. Can you advise exactly which keyboard (make, model) your wife has.

Thanks again, Chris.

Widen the screen on Westinghouse tv

Screens are controlled by ASPECT RATIO.
Monitors can have 4:3 16:9 and 16:10 ratios.

You are doing 1 of 3 things.
  1. You have a regular monitor and the tv and are duplicating the screen.
  2. You have a regular monitor and the TV and are extending the screen.
  3. You have just the tv connected.
Your video card has to have a screen resolution that meets the tv's ratio to have the tv take the full screen.

If your configuration is 1. the tv will only match the monitor resolution, so if you change the screen resolution, you may get bars on the monitor, and the tv will go wide screen.

if your configuration is 2. the tv is controlled independently and you can select it to change its resolution to an appropriate aspect resolution. *this requires that your video card gives you the correct screen resolution for your tv. not all displays will work.

If your configuration is 3. the tv is the only resolution that is being pushed and just adjust the resolution til the screen is filled in.

To adjust the screen resolution, right click on the desktop where there isnt an icon and select either Properties (windows xp) or Screen Resolution (windows vista, 7 and 8).

if you have 2 screens press the identify button and it will put a number on each screen. click the appropriate screen and go to the resolution dropdown below. Change, apply and if it doesn't look right, revert and try a different setting. if you try them all and it won't take up the full screen, then the video card can't push the video resolution your monitor wants.

Can I get rid of borders above and below my screen when watching netfix on my pc

What's probably going on here is that the video your watching is a different aspect ratio than your monitor. So for the video to completely cover your monitor it would either need to be stretched, or have part of the video cropped off on the sides. Instead of distorting or cropping the image the black borders are shown. Netflix doesn't provide a way to change this currently. A work-around though, would be to change the resolution on your monitor. So if for example your monitor has an aspect ratio of 16:10 (like 1920x1200), and the video is 16:9 (like 1920x1080), you would change your resolution from 1920x1200 down to 1920x1080. (9/16 * 1920 = 1080)

Had to restore computer and now the text doesn't fit screen, how do I change it or make it smaller

Hi Mary,
If you are running Windows 7, you will go to the Personalize by right clicking on the desktop, then you can change any aspect of the desktop, i.e. desktop image, text, etc
If you are on XP, you can go to the "Display" in the Control Panel, then you can change the aspect of the text, usually it is the first thing you see there, make it "Normal". Here you can also change the Screen resolution, by making it larger to accommodate the text, usually 1024 by 768 is a good size. This may solve the problem altogether without changing text size.
Let me know how you make out, please rate and comment.
Thank you Joe

Hi all, I want to clean my laptop's keyboard. Unfortunately the keys won't come out... I have an Emachines D725 laptop and I'm not sure if they keys are not removable... If they aren't, how else could I...

While the unit is off and the battery removed.

Use a vacuum cleaner to get any loose material that is hidden in the depths of your keyboard. A vacuum cleaner will get most of the dust etc...
You may also use a paint brush to lightly get out any other bits, and or a toothpick.
Wipe the keyboard with a slightly damp cloth. Remember you don't want to get any water into the laptop. So slightly damp will do.

Thanks and take care!

Video files are not displaying right aspect ratio when copied in Windows dvd maker.

If you go into the dvd options dialogue, you find there a DVD aspect ratio option. This option lets you determine if a slide show on the DVD is displayed at 16:9 (widescreen) or 4:3 (standard) aspect ratio.
Alternatively: go into your settings and set 4:3 Pan & Scan or from 4:3 PS to 4:3 LB whichever your aim is or well whichever aspect of a movie you want to see.

If this helped please rate :)

Cant get inbuilt monitor speakers in Optima desktop pc to work

ome LCD monitors have inbuilt speakers and a headphone socket that can be very handy if, say, you're using a website that provides sound, such as the free language tutorials on http://www.bbc.co.uk. The internal speakers, of course, have to be connected to a sound card, just as external speakers have to be.

The inbuilt speakers in an LCD monitor are fine for the sound produced by websites, but if you want to use your computer to watch DVD movies, most authoratitive sources recommend the use of a separate sound system.

Most LCD monitors have an aspect ratio (see further down the page for more information on this) of 4:3, simply because the standard display resolutions (see further down the page for more information on this) such as 800X600 and 1024X768 have a height-to-width ratio of 4:3, which is what the aspect ratio is.

An aspect ratio of 4:3 is equivalent to the screen being viewed in the landscape printing orientation, and as such is ideal for dealing with documents, such as large spreadsheets, that are wider than they are high. But most document pages are best viewed in the portrait orientation, in which the height of the page is greater than its width. Therefore, some LCD monitors can be rotated through 90 degrees so that they can be viewed in the portrait orientation.

The monitors that allow rotation usually also come with the software that changes the output from the computer to match the portrait orientation of the screen. Pivot Pro is a good example of such software.

How can I change aspect ratio on acer 19"monitor. The picture is not real ..it is stretched Thank You

In the display properties you can adjust your resolution (aspect ratio).

1. Right click in an open area on your desktop and go to properties.

2. The display properties window will appear. Click on the "SETTINGS" tab.

3. You can adjust the resolution one notch at a time to find the aspect you're looking for. NOTE: by clicking on "APPLY" instead of "OK" you can see the affects of your change without closing the window down. This will allow you to easily change it again without having to reopen the display properties windows over and over again.

Hope this helps.
