Holding the # button down did not help get my phone out of silent mode. Am I supposed to be holding it for a specific amount of time? Or am I supposed to be holding down another button at the same time?
Note: I did not intentionally set the phone to silent mode. I just noticed it was on vibrate and tried to get it out of silent mode...without any success.

What model of Ericsson do you have? The Ericsson lineup by Sony comes in many flavours, each with its own unique layout and design. Generally there is either a setting in the settings menu for silent mode or vibrate, or in some cases a specific button on the phone will do the trick. If your phone has a keypad try holding the "#" key for a few seconds, I know some phones use this button as a switch to quickly turn silent on or off.

since i do not know the type of phone you are using i would advice that you try holding down on the * or # (this is because soe phones have been configured to switch to that silent mode when you hold down on that button)
look for a small bell button on any of those keys.
