Can only pull up computer in safe mode. After trying a recovery it tells me that the windows firewall did not load. After a couple of times of trying to bring it up, it will allow me to bring it up in safe mode.

Re: computer laptop problem
Generally, when a firewall or antivirus application fails to load, a virus is the suspect cause. Many viruses are designed to attack/disable the firewall/antivirus as to infect the system. If the operating system has beenn compromised to the point you can only boot in the safe mode, the likelyhood of removing the viruses and still being able to repair the operating system WITHOUT a clean reinstall of Windows is not great.
Things you can try.
If you have more than one computer, see if you can connect this drive to a healthy system, and remove the infection.
Run hardware diagnostics on the hard drive, as a hardware failure can mimic a software problem by files being damaged writing them to bad sectors of the media.
If you can access the internet in safe mode with networking, or can access internet with another system, you can download several programs/tools to try to remove any infections. www.gur,in is one page with a large assortmant of tools to try to use to remove any infection. Sometimes you can install and run these in the safe mode or use safemsi.exe to enable some installers to run in the safe mode.
If the hard drive fails diagnostics then you will have to replace the hard drive. If it passes diagnostics, and attempts to remove infection fail, boot to XP cd, format the hard drive and do a clean install of windows the reinstall all drivers and applicaitons. If the format fails, replace the hard drive

There's a number of reasons that you could have that issue. HDD failure, RAM failure, some sort of Windows driver issue.
Try restarting the computer and before the Windows loading screen, start mashing the F8 key. That should bring you to a screen that offers to start you in safe mode. Try starting in safe mode, which only loads the absolutely necessary files for Windows to load, and see if it'll start up there. If it does, attempt to use Windows Recovery Tool.
You mentioned it boot in safe mode, if it's showing the taskbar where the start button is, then do the system restore. Click start/all programs/accessories/system tools/system restore. Select the previous date that the laptop was working fine the laptop will restart by itself once done. If this process does not resolve the issue, do system recovery (reformat) using the recovery disc that came with the laptop.
Sounds to me like a windows problem or maybe a driver error. if it boots up in safe mode and it dont boot up in regular mode, one of the drivers that dont have to load in safe mode keeps crashing it. check all startup programs and disable as many as you can
ok sir when upower up the computer press F8 key then u see safer mode if u are able enter in safe mode. then u not need winxp recovery disk. After enter in safe mode. Go to satrt menyu then run then type in run "chkdsk /r" then press enter then press "y" then restart the computer . Also change the screeen resolution to 1024*768 some tiomes it is disaply resolution problerm. So alos try "enable vga mode " u can see it when u power up the computer and press F8 key . Try both my suggestion sir. Thanks.
Try to see if it will boot in safe mode, by pressing F8 while the laptop boots up. If it allows you to boot in safe mode, try to do a system restore when you know that laptop was working with no problems. You can do this by clicking on start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system restore and choose a date and time when you know that the laptop was working with no problems. If this does not work or you cannot boot in safe mode (be aware that everything will look big in safe mode and when the computer reboots if asked how you want to start windows, choose start windows normally), try doing a recovery. This will restore your computer to the factory default settings when you purchased it. You can do this by booting the computer, when the acer screen appears hold down the ALT key and continuously press F10, this will open the recovery manager and you can restore it from there.
Try starting your computer in safe mode and do a virus scan once in safe mode. While in safe mode Windows only loads the basic devices to run your computer and usually viruses are not loaded untill windows starts in regular mode. Don't panic once you are in safe mode and your screen looks all grainy, this is normal.
Restart your computer and press F8 as soon as you turn it on.
