Pentax Z1. The shutter and mirror are locked. Ok when I took the battery out and stored it, but when I wanted to use it again I bought a new battery but no go, it makes sounds and attempts to focus but thats about all. I believe this may be terminal, am I right? If not any solutions please. Doug Meatcher

I took the bottom plate off, but was a bit daunted by the circuit board, is this the right way in to find the gears? I also attempted to remove the top plate, and having removed all visible screws, I could not persuade the plate to even move, so put the screws back in. Any ideas anybody please?

What is a hard reset?? I have not heard of this in relation to the Pentax Z1 film camera

  • Douglas Meat Jul 07, 2008

Can I repeat that the Pentax Z1 is a film camera not a digital model. Could someone please advise me how to access in internal gears? Is it by removing the top or the bottom plate?

I repeat-- Please can someone tell me how to access the gears that drive the mirror and shutter in my PENTAX Z1 film camera?

So far, none of the solutions offered have addressed the problem of the shutter and mirror being locked up in my Z1 film camera except the first expert who thought the internal gears might be seized. So, can anyone tell me how to get into the internal workings of the camera body? Pentax Z1(UK model)

You are going to want to send the camera in for service, or replace if it is not worth the investment. You can call around and get estimates. If you need any help locating service centers or any other assistance let me know.
Thanks,

You need to start removing the screws at the base of the lens barrel, all pentax are slightly different and service manuals are not available online.. Once you take apart lens barrel you will have to dismantle the whole lens mechanism without messing it up, to give you an idea here is how to take apart a 70-210, shows what is inside:
Pentax 70-210 RepairBefor trying to open the lens gear, try forcing the shutter to open gently with your fingernails while you turn the camera on, sometimes it fixes similar problems.

Well, the procedure is the same to the one to take apart the Pentax 70-210 , already posted. All you have to do is taking a precision screwdriver in hand and starting to work on the lens.
Additionally here is also a copy of the owner manual.
You can get a copy of the original service manual here or contacting Factory.
Here is also a copy of user manual for reference only.
Be careful if you are not expert in taking apart gears with small parts, there is always the risk to cause further damage.

See the black ring around the white, aperture-adjusting piece. Right on the front of the lens. Find the two slots and with your thumbnails unscrew it. Remove it and the aperture adjustment ring. Be VERY careful! Don’t lose the tiny steel ball that sets in the auto detent groove. I always do camera disassembly on a blue washcloth so any parts that fall out won’t bounce off my desk and I can instantly see it and put it somewhere safe.
Next, with your fingers, unscrew the front lens element.. We take a tightly rolled piece of Kleenex and hold it with our locking tweezers. If the blades look dirty or oily, saturate the Kleenex in some Ronsonol and wipe the blades clean. But my blades looked clean so I was lucky. As soon as I touched the blades with the Kleenex they snapped shut. So I simply sprinkled some graphite on the closed blades and gently...very gently...massaged the graphite in. Then blew the whole area clean with a can of air. Hold the shutter open on B and aperture set to 1.7 (wide open) to blow out the rear element area. If you had to use Ronsonol, you’ll have to blow air longer, until everything is dry.
Now snap the shutter a few times at various speeds

    sir,

i have looked out in pentax site..they say

There are two reasons why you may be experiencing shutter release problems: 1. The flash is recharging. When the flash indicator light blinks red, the flash is charging and no pictures can be taken. The flash indicator light stops blinking and holds a continuous red when charging is complete and the camera is ready to take the picture. 2. The memory card is full. There are two options for correcting this issue – using a new memory card or deleting some images to free up space on an existing one.

    hello ,

i called the pentax guys for assistance. they said the reason for not opening the shutter are

    1.main switch is off

    2. low battery indication

3.battery is improperly installed (pl chek this in ur camera)

4.the mode dial is set to sum PF option

    5.self timer mode is selected.

if u suspect for any manual cloging of the shutter ,,do get to te servicemen n donot attempt to open it urself whihc may result in damage of shutter spring

    thank u

Did you try doing a hard reset to the device

Well if its the terminal then the camera must have been dropped on the ground so due to shock it might have got the loose contact or else the shutter motor must have gone bad or the gears which moves might have worn out tooth,

Suggestion would be you can open the camera you self and try to check for any loose contact and fix it back.

The shutter gears may be jamming or locking, i wont suggest you to open the camera if you have not done it before.

Mirror lockup often occurs if the batteries are flat.

Try new batteries first and if the problem remains please report back for further options.

mirror locked up? if so, the shutter curtain may not have traveled fully. gently push the curtain to the left until the mirror returns.
or the locking mechanism in the mirror box is not working. if so the camera must be disassembled to remove the mirror box for repair.
in either case the camera should be repaired and adjusted by a camera repair person. there are no new parts for this model Pentax so the repair could be expensive. get an estimate first.
i am assuming the lens cap is off.

Sounds like your mirror has locked in the up position. Could be several things. These cameras did take a battery -- usually located on the bottom plate -- looks like a slot for a very large screwdriver -- use a coin instead, to unscrew. Inspect battery and housing, remove any corrosion with brush, match battery and replace. May have to go to camera shop for battery, or try online. If new battery does not release mirror, suggest unloading film in darkness, rewinding into cassette leaving loading tongue so can access it to reload or for developing. Then very gently try to release mirror from inside camera body and check for dust/dirt/etc. with camel's hair brush. Try operation of camera without film -- shutter, film advance lever, etc. and see if this helps.

Is my ME Super toast?

It doesn't need batteries to shoot. You can use it on manual without batteries, but the exposure meter won't work (if you know what you're doing you can go by). But the stuck mirror should be fixed. It could be just plain dirty/rusty/bent etc.
The advance lever might be gone since it won't 'click'. A professional shop can fix it, but the one you tried doesn't sound very professional...

Film not exposing.

Ok, well are you using a lens that is compatible with the auto setting? Are the batteries new and fresh in the camera? If you are not sure about the lens, then what you can do is too look at the inside of the box of the film you are using (Kodak) has a setting and exposure guide printed on the box. Try using the required exposure for the light that you are in... say for bright sun try f 16 at 1/125th of a second. That setting is for Kodak Royal Gold 100. That is right off the Kodak exposure guide, which you can find on the web here

http://www.kodak.com/global/en/consumer/products/techInfo/e41/index.shtml#exposure

I'd stick to Kodak film if possible. Try that out, and if no dice, then take the camera to a repair shop and have it looked over. good luck!

Stuck shutter D100 Nikon

The R06 is the buffer indication, not part of the error. It would appear more work is required. Other components may have failed, or the shutter itself may be bad.

I'm afraid this one is not a DIY. Nikon is pricey on repairs, you may fair better checking the repair service search here on Fixya.

Light meter failure and shutter button sticking

Set your camera to B and release the shutter ( camera will work in this mode without batteries ) if you can wind ok and release shutter fine then all you need is new batteries. If however your camera is not working when set to B then it is either the shutter or the transport mechanism that need looking at. From experience ( have repaired 100s of Me-supers ) it is likely that your shutter needs attention : rubber components ( and foam rubber ) inside the shutter ( and the mirror box locking mechanism especially ) have perished and need replacing.
