HP OEMed the ScanJet 3200C from UMAX. It's a Astra 1220P UMAX does not support this scanner anymore also HP does not but if you look around you will find file sj648en.exe from HP. This might work on your system, it's for upto Win XP. I have been trying to get a USB to parallel to work with this scanner, so far so bad many many hours.
there is not drivers or software made for Windows XP.
however, you can use the win98 or WinME software. as long as the Windows Xp is running at 32 bits. I have done that with HP flat bed scaner.
don't worry about the non-certified software with MS.
It may happen if you are using HP Scanjet 5590 scnaner on windows XP. I suggest you to completely uninstlal the scanner software and then install the version 9.0 from the below link. It is the updated version for Vista but work on XP system..

Check out the 'Compatibility mode in the Help section of My computer. Reset the computer to run the software as for Win98. However if this is a Win 98 scanner then difficulties must be expected. Scanners nde for Win95/98/Me expect to receive instruction from computer in DOS. XP is NTFS and many scanners simply do not work with NTFS- not withstand makers having kludges of drivers to download - in general they did not work.
Try re-installing the drivers , your crash could of corrupted the installed drivers causing your issues. I have installed Media Center on my Father in Law's cpu and found that it is very unstable at times and also many of his installed programs that worked fine under Win XP SP2 either crash frequently or wont work at all. Driver support is an issue for Media Center IMO. I would recommend if you cannot get the scanner to work after you re-install them , think about changing your OS. Good Luck.
