HP PC will not boot up

My HP Media Center PC will not boot up. The CD Rom drive keeps blinking and trying to read something (whether or not there is a disk in the drive) but the monitor won't come on nor will windows start.

The CD rom just keeps blinking on forever.

Is the CD rom the problem and if so is there a way to turn off the CD rom so the PC will start windows?

Thanks. The monitor doesn't show anything though it is on and connected. No signal is getting to monitor. Is there any alternative to opening up the tower (e.g. keystrokes)

The first thing that i would do is see if you can go into safe mode and try booting from there . when it comes up choose the one that is already hilighted. if it still wont boot then open up the tower and unplug the power from the cd rom. if it is your cd rom i would go and by another one or return the cd rom.

hope this works

whats on the back of the tower is there screws or any typ of screw. if so then you will have to take out two of the screws and one side of the tower should come off

Comes up no opererating system.sees hard drive and cd rom.does not read vista disk in cd rom.know cd of vista good,do i just need to change out cd rom drive?

I think your PC is trying to boot from a hard drive without an operating system.

You'll need to change the boot option in the bios from HDD to CD.

When the boot screen comes up, look at the bottom of the screen, it'll say something akin to

Select "DEL" for SETUP or F2 for boot options, you can use either, but remember if you choose to change the setup, it will be a permanent change until you reset it.

Hit the requisite button, read the screen to change "The first boot device" to CD. If you change just your boot option, your pc should then boot from the Disk.

If you decide to change the bios (setup) settings you'll need to save and exit. Unless you're very sure, just change the boot option for now.

HELP MY COMPUTER WONT READ ANY CD'S EXCEPT A DVD,, WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?? ANY HELP

hi

you have either one of these ..

5187-5619 = DVD-ROM/CD-RW combination drive - 48X CD-R write, 32X CD-RW rewrite, 48X CD-ROM read, 16X DVD-ROM read

EL436-69001 = 48X DVD-ROM CD-R/RW optical drive - 48X read, 32X read, 48X read, 16X max write speed

make sure you buy CDs or DVDs which are speed compatible to your optical drive or COMBO drive speeds

if you are busying compatible speed CD media, then take some compressed air (can) and clean the drive bay and inside the optical drive area, to dedust it .

go to this site and review all the related sites .. read carefully and try to figure out what the possibility (issue) is .

if ALL this fails, you may have to replace the DRIVE itself

i hope this helps

I can't open my DVD-Rom drive and it doesn't read the information in my CD drive? It's an HP Media Center PCm7334m, computer.

  1. Software can lock the CD drive preventing you from ejecting. If this is the problem, turn off the machine, turn on, when the DELL screen flashes, push the eject button several times and the CD will eject.

  2. If that doesn't work, look for a small hole the size of a paper clip and gently push a paper clip into it. When you meet resistance, the drawer will start to open. You can then pull it open carefully. The computer can be off when you try this.

  3. If neither work, then you might have a jammed CD, i.e. incorrectly inserted. You can try to force the drawer open with your fingers but don't use so much force you strip the plastic gears.

Wont boot, not even from CD, won't open setup or boot options

At first you insert your system disc on your cd/dvd rom driver and restart your computer. Now press F2 or DEL until you get your BIOS option. Now go to advance option then boot option in that. Now change your first boot option to CD/DVD ROM DRIVE and save that change by pressing F10. Now restart your computer and continue your installation. Thank you.

I am having a problem with my hp cd/dvd burner drive. when I go into wmp and try to burn something it tells me to connect a burner and restart the player, please help

What version of Windows Media Player are you currently using? If it is not up-to-date, try updating Windows and Windows Media Player. Then attempt to create the CD.

If that doesn't work, try updating the driver for your CD-ROM drive. Navigate to HP's Support Site, type in your machine model and search fot the CD drivers there. Update the necessary drivers and attempt to create the CD once more.

I hope I was able to help. Good luck!

HP Media XP Desktop won't boot up...

If yours is an original hp it should have a rescue or diagnostics partition that you should be able to access by pressing f10 in here you will find a diagnostics tool that will help isolate if you have a bad cd rom or memory. If all tests come out good then you need to get a hold of another cd; maybe your's is scratched.

CD ROM Won't work

First you want to make sure the CD you are using is good. Try a different CD-ROM, a known good one. If a different CD-ROM is readable then the problem is with your CD media and not the CD-ROM Drive. If another known good CD does not work then the problem is with the drive.

To fix this you must purchase a new CD-ROM drive and install it. Newegg.com has great deals. If you only want to read CDs and are not interested in burning then you can get a name brand CD-ROM drive for around $15.00, but if you need to burn as well the CD+-RW will run you about $30.00.

If you are using Windows XP then it is pretty simple to install the new CD-ROM drive.
