Question about Samsung CLP 300 Laser Printer

1 Answer

Printer says printing but does not print

Hi,
I have 2 CLP-300, each connected to an Apple Express Airport base station, so I can print wirelessly. Both printers worked for a while (2 month) and then stopped printing. The red light flashes constantly. Often a printing job gets stuck on printing at 90% and it does not complete the job. I was able to make it work again by removing the printer from the printer list and ask the computer to browse for it again. It stopped again and that trick no longer works. The printers also don't print with a direct USB cable to the computers. Do you know what is happening? Both printers are having the exact same problem with Mac or Windows machines.
Thank you,
Cris

...Sounds like the same problem! I send the job to print over my (Mac) Airport network, and it instantly
appears in the print monitor window, then stops at some point -
generally more than 50% and less the 100%- I only just got this printer
and it printed well the first time, then without changing anything,
this started. I have tried restarting computer, network and printer,
changed to brand new cables, and Airport is fine otherwise...

This post regarding the CLP-300/AirPort problem appeared on the Mac forums in June:

"This is not a known issue. The reason for you to face this particular issue is that these are both 2 GDI printers. Both these printers are designed to be DIRECTLY connected to a PC or MAC. They are not designed to be connected to any type of Printer Server, Airport Extreme Base Station or Powered/Unpowered USB Hub.

If the printers are to be used over a N/W environment then you may need either CLP-300N or any other N/W capable printing device. The other option would have been to use any device that is PCL or Post Script capable. These are not host based would have been better to suited this type of environment. Even though the previously mentioned methods of connections are still not recommended they would have been better suit as they are not host reliant drivers.

As to getting a refund it would highly unlikely as it is not a fault with the printer or drivers only as mentioned they are both designed with the intention of being DIRECTLY connected."

I hope this answers your questions. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Not being an expert, I didn't really understand the answer. Basically, as far as I understand the explanation, it seems to me that one cannot use the CLP-300 with ainy of the AirPorts. Is that about right?

Hello to the IT Technical Support team in Australia - maybe you can help me too ? I am trying to connect the Samsung CLX-3175fn to Apple airport express. The printer works for the MacBook Air prefectly and a new windows 8 computer. It does not work for a windows 7 pc - and only send a "ping" to acknoledge the print command but does nothing. Any ideas - would really be appreciated. Thanks, Robert.

Hi i need 2 know wat the ip address is for hp deskjet F380 is

hi cooldude,

this printer comes with a USB port for connecting to your computer. Unless you have the printer connected to an airport express base station, the printer will not have an IP address.

Let me know what you want to do and I can help you further. Do you want to share the printer so you can print from other PCs over your network?

Hope this helps

Setting up a printer for an airport extreme using windows xp

This faq might help in setting up the printer however this is not guaranteed to work every time if the printer in question is not supported by the router...

If you use Windows XP, you can print to a USB printer connected to an AirPort Extreme Base Station. Just follow these steps:
1. Click Start and point to Printer and Faxes.
2. Click Add Printer, follow the onscreen instructions.

MX310 - Wireless network printer used on an Apple Airport Extreme

Here's what worked for me: I had everything set with my wireless network which included an Airport Extreme base station and two Airport Express units to extend range. I still couldn't plug and play with my printer. 1. You have to plug your printer into the Airport Express, turn it on, then select a document to print from your computer. 2. Select print from the pulldown menu (or select 'command P' on the keyboard). 3. When the print dialog window appears, go to the "Printer:" selection bar near the top of the window and select "print & fax preferences..." 4. This opens a new window, "print & fax." Near the bottom left of this window just below an icon list of your printers are a "+" button and a "-" button right next to each other. 5. Click "+". Yet another window opens which will reveal a list with your printer on it. 6. If you don't see your printer, click the "default" icon in the top left hand corner of the new window. 7. Select your printer, then click "add" on the bottom right hand corner of the window. The window will close automatically and return you to the "print & fax" window. 8. You should now see your printer in the list. You may say, "My printer was already in the list," but that's not good enough. The process you just went through enabled the computer to detect it on your network. You may want to use the "-" button to remove any previously listed printers from the list in the "print & fax" window. 9. Now you should be able to close the "print & fax" window and get some wireless printing done.

When connected to Airport Express via USB, it will

Airport Express provides only a print server, not a networked usb hub so it can only print. I'm afraid you'll have to go back to wired for scanning.

Can't print to mac wirelessly (could do it a few days ago)

I had the same problem until recently. You have to install the drivers FROM THE CD that came with the printer, instead of selecting the drivers from the default list. Then, when selecting which printer driver to use (you'll have two options) choose Canon IJ and NOT Canon MX310 series. This is a problem with their MX310 driver, which is solved using a default/generic Canon InkJet (hence, the IJ) driver. Hope this helps!
P.S. This only works on Mac OS X. I have yet to figure out how to print wirelessly through Vista. Will keep you posted.

Networking a Printer on a wireless network

Deanna, if the mfc is not that old, take it back to the dealer and ask for changing it to a wireless printer (extension: CW). Do you really need the fax function? If not, try this printer: DCP 750CW. If yes, get the MFC 845 CW. The CN printer have to be connected directly to router or pc/laptop.
